Hey ya'll, I need an opinion. I have 2 cars currently. My 2000 Olds Alero GL (3400sfi) with 125,000 miles and 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi (3800 */c) with 65,000 miles are sitting at home and I need to get rid of one. Both Kelly Blue Book around $3000, with the Bonneville being worth slightly more. There is no need for me to have two cars and I need to decide which one to sell. I want to keep the Bonneville because it is so low mileage, but its a 14 year old car, whereas the Alero is 5 years newer but has many more miles. I worry that the simple age of the Bonneville will cause it to be more money to maintain despite its low mileage but can 5 years make that huge of a difference?

Either way, I need to sell one and I can't decide. I'm posting this Identical Thread over on the alero forum, where I am a member also, to get both sides of the story.

I don't think the 5 years in age would make much difference unless you are already seeing more maintenance required on the Bon. I do think the mileage is a huge factor. It plays an important roll in Blue Book values too. Since you are the one that has to drive them, which one are you more comfortable in? Good luck,

My vote would be to sell the Bonneville except the Alero has the 3400. Reason behind that is the Bonneviille is too low mileage for the age. In high mileage cars things haven't dry rotted, bearings haven't flat spotted etc.

I trust the 3400 less though.

Which one you more comfortable in? I would suspect the Bonneville to be a better ride. Personally, I would keep the bonnie if your able to maintain it yourself.

well i have a 93 ssei, and over the years the only major repairs it has needed is 2 new superchargers, but keep in mind my car has 170k and a waterpump went, thats really all of the major problems with the car. the 3800 is solid, u can put a bullit through the block and it will still get you home from work. i would keep the bonnie, it has luxary and power, the olds is kinda power not much luxary. so let us know what you decide to do.

What can I say? We love our Bonnevilles.

you need to ask a third party, bc everyone here will say keep the bonnie and everyone at your other forum will say keep the olds, so u have to ask some1 else

Bonnie. Yep, I'm biased. Don't know much about the Olds. Will you have to put a lot of miles on the Bonnie if you get rid of the Olds? Mine is high mileage and my repairs have all been normal maintenance for a high mileage car. Wheel sensors, brakes and such. With the miles that I was putting down a couple of years ago, I think a lesser vehicle would have died long ago. But then like Billboost37 has stated you could end up with a whole different set of issues with a low mileage car. If your garage was on fire and you could only save one which woul it be? Sometimes ya gotta go with your gut.

Keep the Bonneville. If I remember correctly the Alero is a N body, which is plagued with brake problems, electrical problems, water leaks, rust, squeaks and rattles.... and most of all, it'* got a 3400 (I hate these engines with a passion).

But then again, the Bonne sounds like it'* been sitting for a while, who knows what can go wrong.

Or trade them both in and get a G8?

It'* dilema for sure. I've had both engines, and have liked the 3800 more. The bonne is best for ride and comfort. Based on the engines I would find the alero a good home
