Default Watch it go........No more L36

Just to start, it is now 2006 and my car turned 10. I got her something nice, an L67 of course. Funny situation though, about a month ago I spun a rod bearing, and parked the car, the motor didn't have long. I did the work about 40 minutes from my house at my buddies shop, and decided to drive the car there. It was running pretty rough, and the temp was above normal. Well about 30 minutes into the trip it happened, BOOM! My buddy following me told me a huge black cloud came out from under the car. It was knocking BAD anytime you were on the throttle.
Decided to park it and ride to the shop. The shop next door builds rock crawlers, so we borrowed his F-350 to go get my car, because we had to pull it over a bridge so tall that cruise ships go underneath. The car cooled for about an hour, and the temp was down. I decided to try to drive it. It was knocking so loud and looked like a rocket ship so much smoke was coming out from underneath it. Never let me down, I made it, the temp gauge was pegged out and the motor was done. So after a few more burnouts and trying to waste the motor in neutral, no rods came through the block. 302,597 on a L36 can't complain about that at all.
After all of that we pulled the motor and tranny out and put the new motor in. Yes, just the motor, no tranny. I was a little pissed, after I worked for 2 hours on the tranny and could not mount it. It was ready to go on, so I went to bolt up the torque converter, and damn it the bolt holes were off by 3 mm . So we mounted the motor anyways in the car, so I can take care of everything.
I know this thread is worthless without pics, but my camera is worthless without batteries, but I'll have some up tomorrow.

Yeah it is a different trans, its a 4T65e-HD out of a GTP. The flexplates are different between the 4t60 and 4t65, but my dumbass didn't know that until the last second

Finally found a flexplate, thanks to Club GP. The part was dealer only, can't get it from NAPA or Advance or another local guy. My friend works at the dealer and gets a crazy discount, when I asked him how much it costs, he said WAY too much. Last night I came to the conclusion that I was going to go through the trouble of pulling a motor (with a sawzall) just to get one from the bone yard. I came to work and checked my e-mail $30 shipped and I will have it, I must have done something right.

that sounds alot like what my car did when it died. Same motor, just a 97. It didnt last nearly as long, but it knocked like hell the last time I limped home. A oil pressure was low, but temp was fine. That should be a pretty neat sleeper, and one of a kind!
