Default Accessory belt tensioner pulley disintegrating???

Has anyone had any bad experience/* with the plastic Acc Belt tensioner pulley self destructing and leaving your car 'dead along the highway'?,...several GTP owners have had this happen to them at various mileage marks,...usually at 60-70 K miles or so.....

I have heard it happening on "Modified" engines with different SC pulleys. Usual cause was the added stress put on the belt tensioner due to belt sizing & tension. Since the belt tensioner is the "weakest" link in the system and most modified engines have different sized belts due to over-drive or under-drive SC pulleys, the belt can be too tight & thus cause the belt tensioner to collapse under the stress.

Don, where did you get the metal replacement? I'm running the oversize ZZP on my SC belt, but the other one is stock diameter. It would be nice to change it to metal.

A lot of guys with GP GTPs and GT'* have had the plastic factory pulleys self-destruct at various mileage intervals,...most of those guys were replacing them with aftermarket(Napa,AutoZone, etc)metal pulleys, somewhere around $25.If your belt tensioner (*/cer or ACC belt pulley/*) start making strange noises or is wobbly, the bearing is going bad or the plastic is cracking/splitting....and it won't be long before they let loose,.....a metal pulley is a cheap fix,and you won't be left standed somewhere when it comes apart(and often chews up the belt/*,as well).
Another bad-design 'feature'with the */C'd motors(happened on my GTP)is the dual-stage fuel pump,...it'* uncovered/unprotected wire resistor is located under the RF fender-well(on GTP'*....probably the same on Bonnevilles),exposed to wet road conditions, ice/snow,etc,gets corroded and the wire-resistor (separating the internal operation of the two stages)breaks, and when it does, you have a zero operating condition to the fuel pump, causing the engine to die, with a no-restart result. There is a location replacement kit available(don't know the factory part number)that has you mount the resistor on the inside, underhood fenderwell or fiewall which protects it from the elements...
