just got schooled in my own garage
ok so i just got a lesson from justin about the throttle body, vacuum hoses, and maf plugs, and air intake temp plug and whatnot. i guess i gotta have the throttle body cleaned and something about "see foam" to clean my manifold cause its filled with carbon. and i also gotta have my screen cleaned or something. i took in quite a bit tonite but we think it might not be the transmission, but a misfire thats shaking the whole car when i use the torque. lots of sprays and brushes and parts to buy for my maf, throttle body, and intake fabrication. we shall see how things go.
ps- i accidently put too much transmission fluid and lukas fluid into my transmission cause the dipstick said the transmission was bone dry, and the dipstick wasnt registering until i saw the dipstick today and it was filled to the guiding notch. supposidly the thing'* supposed to be hot and ran so we can get an accurate reading, i had no idea. guess i was almost screwed, so thats step 1 to this process. but my engine light is on so i think we'll be taking a ride to bill'* house probably thurs pending schedules, and get to work by the wkend so i dont become stranded. to all who is taking the time to school a newbie for under the hood of these cars while im still into the old school engines.

like i told justin and ill prolly end up telling bill a million times over, thats why i stay out from underneath there cause its my daily driver i cant screw anything up cause godforbid, 75% of stuff under there is plastic and its very easy to get confused, considering i was schooled about carbs, full length headers, distributers, stuff that our cars do not have.

Well, in a way they still do. instead of a carb, we have a throttle body, the jets were removed and replaced with injectors. The injectors need to know what the throttle body is doing so sensors were added, MAF to know how much air is entering, a TPS so it knows where the butterfly is, and a IAC to replace the choke. The distributer was replaced with coils, and sensors were needed for that as well because there is no longer a direct connection to the engine. So a crank sensor is used. It'* all the same, but different.

i still have lots to learn and lots of questions ive been asking. like i thought you can clean the throttle body, screen, intake tube, and the center inside with brake cleaner but it turns out there are sprays that clean and lube at the same time. plus "see foaming" and whatnot... like i said, lots to learn....

ya but there were no cars like these in the 70s though. my 1st was an 87 caprice classic and i turned underneath the hood into a 9c1 police runner. the grand national maybe but thats a completely different animal cause of the turbo and intercooler and ramair under the car.

My first car was a 77 Chevy van, not much to deal with under that hood. Had a girlfriend back then and she had a 64 Falcon, just a block, carb, distributor, and a generator. Ya, I said generator. No emissions. The PCV was a tube the hung down and sucked blow bye out of the engine. Talk about easy to work on.
