Well, I recently helped someone move into a new house about 2 hours south of where I live, and they had a couple Bonnevilles. One was a '99 with 180k miles on it (more than my 92!), and the other was a '97 SSEi with approx. 160k. The paint was purple which was the first thing that made me wonder. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 40th anniversary editions have a Pontiac arrowhead shape right next to the doors with something like 40th over it right?

Anyway, I talked to his son who lives in town with me, and he talked to him. Now this guy is a salesman, but I'm hoping I can use that against him. I did a check on KBB, and assuming everything is in good condition at 160k miles, it said $3700 or so. So, does anyone else think I should get a chance to go down there with my mom (she'd be basically buying it for me and I'd pay her back, including whatever I got for my '92) and bargain with this guy to try and get it for around $3500 or lower?

To be honest, I'd be willing to pay $3700 for it, but only after I checked stuff out. Are there any common failures in the Series II L67s I should look for while I check it out? Also, possibly anything not necessarily common in the Series II L67, but just general things I might want to look for, like knocking, or maybe even borrowing my uncle'* diagnostic tool, assuming it'* OBD II compatible?

I'd love some input, because I'd love a supercharger, a 40th anniversary, and best yet, to be rid of the dreaded white curse!

Yeah that sounds like a 40th. To be absolutely sure though, check the spare tire cover for the 3-character "Y40" RPO code.

I'd check the coolant level as well as the oil pressure when it warms up. Make sure the trans shifts smoothly as well.

By the way, it'* not really an arrowhead logo at all. It'* basically a "winged" emblem with the words "40 Years" going across the top and "Bonneville" running down the length.

But it'* above the rear tires right? If so, I'm almost positive it is. Anyway, Since he'* a salesman, and I don't think he knows that I know, I'll bargain his butt off. My mom traded in her '99 Bonneville for a lot more than what the dealership wanted to pay for it, because she was stubborn and they really wanted to sell a car.

When buying a 40th, you should make it clear that there is NO VALUE change for that option. Other than the C-pillar badges, RPO code, and floor mats, there is no difference.

Don't tell him how few 40th SSEi'* were built (those numbers are in Techinfo, and the total for SSEi'* is 647 IIRC. Someone check me on that)

Okay, the guy is in town today, and I'm going over to check it out. He said he'd sell it for $3500. I'll take the camera with me for pics of the engine bay and interior and such. Is there anything I should listen for or look for when it'* running to see if there'* any major problems with it?

It'* got 167k on it, and I'm pretty sure it IS an SSEi. Also, since this is his personal driver, should I go with a full tuneup when I can afford it, and what parts in terms of plugs and wires do you recommend? Also, how many bottles of SC oil might I want to get in case I need/want to change that out as well?

You'll need 2 bottles of SC oil. Ya might want to order it from intense and pick up a coupler while you're at it.
