Default Wrong Badging?

I just did a free carfax report on my car to show my sister how it worked and it says my car is an LE when the badging on the side says SE between the doors on each side. Its an 87 and Ive seen you all mention that the SE option started in 88. Im just wondering what the differences in the packages are and how I can tell what the car really is.. Ijust checked and my title says BLE as the model. How easy is it to change the badge on the door posts? This really psyches me out...

I think I've seen 87 SE'*. I know the SSE started in 88. From your picture it looks like you have the SE wheels. I beleive the SE comes with (correct me if I'm wrong) Rally suspension, center console gear shifter, upgraded wheels, cassette deck, power windows and locks, etc.

Default What ive got

ive got the tri-port aluminum wheels, power seats locks and windows. shifter on the floor, and a cassette that doesnt work but i got no idea about the suspension because its about shot. Im really wondering why my title says BLE as the model. I would guess that to mean Bonneville LE. that plus what carfax said and i just dont know.

I'd like to know what MONTH your car was manufactured. Check the label on the latch edge of the driver'* door. Get where I'm going with this? According to my info, the SE was NOT offered in 87. My info could be wrong, but I think a more likely explanation would be that your car was manufactured during or right before the beginning of the 88 run. Some of the new options available for the 88 model were incorporated in your car as a late-model special order. I had a car like this once. Wasn't supposed to have existed. Guess what? GM.

Just an idea! Really, the ultimate solution would be to call Pontiac. I've done it over the argument about what all the badging names mean. They were more than willing to help, and spent a week working on it, with many different people digging for me.

I'm betting, though, that the month your car was built might be rather revealing.

Your car was built too early in 87 to be part of the 88 model year....BUT some of the upcoming options could have been available. A previous owner could have switched the badging, also, just cuz he liked the SE, or wanted to sell it for more. It'* been done before.

The number to Pontiac Customer service is 1-800-762-2737. Please let me know via email, posting here, or a PM what you find out. It may have a bearing on my Bonneville Timeline. Pontiac will be MORE than willing to help you. They've got a great customer service department.

Good luck!

I called Pontiac and the lady couldn't look up my VIN as they are removed after 10 years but she was rather assured by a manual in her possetion that my car was definatly an LE. Also while I was on hold I ripped apart my interior and there is no way a past owner put those badges on. there are little metal clips that haven't been bent. I would guess they would need bent to come off the other car if they were switched. It kind of sucks but i guess ill pass it off as an SE until I sell.
