First, don't drive it until you get some oil in it.

Assuming you are out of factory warranty, you may want to get the oil at a proper and marked level, and measure it daily along with logging the mileage. You need to figure out where the oil is going, such as being burned through driving or being lost via a leak. Are you losing a quart every 1k miles- you have a problem. Losing a quart every 3k miles, not so much of a problem.

Unfortunately I work out of town and the wife is clueless, I told her don't touch it and have it towed and its a 2010 with 40,000 on it so it should fall under the 100,000 powertrain warranty.

there going to ask you the same questions. and most arent going to do anything unless there is a obvious leak unless you come armed with info. like he said how much, if you say i dont know they arent going to do anything. i would have her park it over cardboard overnight and at least see if its dripping out or being burned and possibly where in relation to the engine, front, back, right, left

The odds are your using oil past the rings and or pulling it through the pcv. for any type of warranty (powertrain, extended policy or goodwill assistance) the amount of oil consumption HAS TO BE DOCUMENTED and has to use more that 1 qt. in 2000 miles. You can bring all the documents but the dealer has to verify the consumption usage before proceeding with any repair.

I've never done that. Never ever. Never. Well, maybe a couple of times.
