I was gonna have it replaced over the summer but I ended up getting sick and had to use that money to pay off my medical bill. So now it has started to consume a half to a quart of oil depending on how much I drive. The oil it leaking out on the driver side front right where the intake bolts to the front cylinder head right above cylinder 5. So can I keep chancing it on drive ability or will I start to due some engine damage. Also since I have a series 1 3800 V6 would I myself be able to due it myself or due I need to take it to the shop. The motor only has a LIM not and UIM and a LIM like a Series 2 3800. I can get the gasket set for it for about 25 dollars but I am wanting to know it yall think a novice like me could due this kinda work. I due have a Chilton manual telling me what all has to come off. So what yall think about this. Due yall think it is still safe to drive and I could due that kind of work or not. Thanks

From the sound of it, your valve cover gasket is leaking. I would look at that before you change your intake gasket.

That leaking to but when I took the car in the shop to have some work done they told me I had a bad Intake manifold leak along with a leaking valve cover gasket.

There is no oil pressure on the intake gasket. The most it would do is a dribble. I would change the valve cover gasket and clean it all up. Then watch to see what happens.

Well there is something coming out of my intake the shop showed me it because it is also leaking right under the throttle body then running down on to the transmission. They called it a blown intake manifold gasket.

Coolant leakage is normally associated with an intake manifold gasket leak.

I would check the PCV valve. If that'* not working right pressure can build up. Oil also has a way of running along groves and stuff. No harm in changing the valve cover gaskets first.

I already replaced the PCV valve in the car.

You my have multiple problems.

If you have an intake manifold gasket leak, coolant is likely what is exiting the gasket. Your car is 22 years old. The coolant is mixing with the dirt and oil around the engine, making it look like oil. Are you loosing coolant?

Your loss of oil may be a separate issue. Dan pointed out valve cover gaskets. Are you burning oil?

In your troubleshooting, you may want to consider separating the oil usage from the intake gasket. On my 98 4.3L S10, I had a intake manifold gasket leak, and a radiator leak at the same time. Multiple failures can show at the same time.

I am not burning oil but I due have an oil leak in that one cylinder right above the leak I mentioned above. It always fouls out plugs every 1000 miles or so. But as long as I put more highway then I due city miles on it that seams to revive the spark plug. Also it does consume a little bit of coolant but not a whole lot. I half to add coolant about ounce or twice a year depending on how much I drive.
