Ford didn't "fail" at making an engine for the SHO. They gave a contract to Yamaha because Yamaha knows what they are doing in terms of getting power, out of relatively small engines. Pontiac does this them selves, and i do prefer Pontiac over Ford, but if given the choice, i would revert to an SHO because they, in my opinion, are faster then a stock SSEi.

I say this, because we used to OWN one and I actually can reinforce my own opinion, and not base it on someone else'* opinion of it..

Woo-hoo!!! Finally a voice of reason!!! :P

not what us to know
They have emissions on the Windsor block, and the same emissions on the Cleveland block, already a proven block, would stil yeild a much more powerful engine. Stick the Cleveland block in a 'Stang with the same emissions that the Cobra R has, and you'll get many more horses and especially torque than it currently has now. That'* what I think. That'* my story, and I'm stickin' to it!!
agreed

I am a huge GTO fan, and I have to say it really depends on what version of the GTO you ordered. RA IV was a good (rare) engine as was the 455. However, DeLorean didn't believe in rear anti-sway bars so the '71 Boss probably could run literal circles around a '71 GTO. LOL
That'* the thing. I remember reading car magazines in that year, and it really blew the market outta the water that a 351 was eating big block 455'*. I saw one magazine that had a lineup with the top o' da line GTO, the 351 Boss Mustang, and a Camaro and one other car (can't remember), and the 'Stang was .5 sec faster than the GTO and a full second faster than the Camaro, although they both were putting out more hp'* than the 'Stang. It'* all about how you transfer that power to the ground.

Oh, I think the fourth car was a mopar with a 440 six-pack.

I realize that Ford puts out some real duds, and they had to get Yamaha'* help for the SHO, but what about the new GT40???!

That thing is a monster!! 500something horsepower! I don't even remember the torque right now, but they're definitely showing that when they want to, they can build a killer car.

Droool...

Not too well. The new GTO only does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds (according to the latest Car & Driver and Road & Track magazines). In the same Road and track they tested a Hennessey 650R Viper. It showed it'* 0-60 compared to the stock Viper. The 650R does 0-60 in 3..0 seconds FLAT. The stock Viper does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. That translates into alot more hp and alot more torque along with alot more traction (aka Viper has alot more rubber on the drive wheels) than the GTO.
As for as the Cobra R I have never seen any stats, but from what I've heard about them they are not to be taken lightly. Supposed to have an easy 100 hp over the GTO, but then again the Cobra is supercharged and the GTO isn't (Pontiac is supposed to be coming out with an even more hi-po GTO next year -wonder how long until they supercharge it?).

GTO 350HP prob get into 4'* easy.
Cobra R 390HP
Viper 500HP actually stock is a 4.x second range car as well

Keep in mind, when they test new cars, stock, they test them like how they're used in real life. They don't break torque, or anything, or keep it in D. Do they all have manuals?

GTO has the corvette engine in it...
