Default Question about Synthetic Motor Oil

First, I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

Second, how many of you are running 100% Synthetic Motor Oil?

The only reason I ask is I plan to switch to synthetic to try and stretch my oil change intervals. I currently change my cars oil every 6-8 weeks (3000 miles) though I have been told since I put so many miles on the car via highway driving that I could actually do this a little less. Meaning of course change at 6000 miles.

What do you all think? Should I stretch the changes to 6k on regular oil or stretch using synthetic?

By the way, the car is now at 50k.

I run Mobil1 in my 93 for 5-6k. Use a premium filter.

Thanks Will. What do you use for a filter?

I use the same as Willwren with about the same intervals. For filters I have either used K&N or Mobil 1. Both are made by the same manufacturer. Only difference is that the K&N flows a little more while the Mobil 1 filters a bit more. Both great filters.
Oh, and the K&N has the nut on the top to make it easy to put a socket on to loosen it.

i have 150,000 miles on my '00 SSEi
and i change the oil every 10,000 miles( Mobil-1 full synthetic 5w30)
i also use an oversize filter, made for the 4.3L Chevy V6
use a good oil filter like Baldwin, Wix or Purolator Pure One
you can switch to synthetic oil anytime you want.

You can move out the change interval as mentioned. However... the manufacturer interval is about 4500-6000 miles from the factory.

I'm not looking to create a debate in your thread.. my personal opinion is..change it every 3K because the dirt and grime is still in the engine and oil.

Synthetic doesn't break down like dino and has a few more detergents...that slows sludging. By extending the change interval..IMO you will still expect and have some sluding. When changing mine every 3K..I noticed a cleansing effect.

I use Mobil 1 5-W30 and I still change it every 3,000 miles. But that'* just because I'm picky lol.

I wasn't looking to stretch as much as 10k just maybe 6k. That would at least bring me to a 10-12 week interval.

I should start changing it myself instead of taking it to the dealer every 6 weeks.

Thanks again everyone.
