95 supercharger cleanup
Hey guys, I need a little bit of help here. I have a 93 ssei that has a damaged coupler, instead of getting a new coupler, I have a supercharger/throttlebody from my 95 ssei that I rebuilt a year ago that I want to put on. From what I read, its an upgrade anyhow. I plan to port the supercharger and clean it up REALLY good. I would like to polish the outside of it as well. I read that the 95 sc has some type of coating inside, my question is what is the safest way to get a glass like surface without damaging the coating and will polishing the sc housing have any negitive effects? thanks in advanced for your help.

Hi..
We'll get this moved to Forced Induction to get you better exposure
What year and model car do you have? A 95 SC/TB is not a bolt on upgrade.
The coating on the outside of the casing is a thermal coating designed to wick away the heat produced by the charger. Removing it will deter the heat wicking properties.
The inside.. there is no coating on the charger housing inside. The coating is on the rotors only. if you remove the rotors before porting the casing you should be all set.
While this is apart, you will want to rebuild the casing by changing the needle bearings and coupler if it has not been done recently.

Please put your year and model in your signature.
Assuming you have a 91-93 L67, you cannot simply bolt the 94/95 (Gen 3) M62 to your car. There are MANY differences including the PCM Many have tried, few have succeeded. Most still have some lingering issues.
My advice is to ebay the 94/95 supercharger for the cash to rebuild or replace yours with the correct SC.

There are more incompatibilities than I can go into right now, and there is no written guide. There are currently only two cars running with the swap on this Forum, and neither is a PERFECT example of a seamless swap. Both have had their issues, but do run. Just not at their full potential.
A few have tried, and only these two have succeeded in any way. One runs full-time with an AFC calibrator (which has issues of it'* own) and the other runs full-time with a Walbro 255 fuel pump and an adjustable FPR jacked all the way up. There are other issues to overcome as well. And there are still unanswered questions about how the fuel injectors are managed, why the fuel pressure is rated differently, if the 'older' style EGR is even sufficient to give what the PCM demands based on flow....and on and on and on.
At this point, I wouldn't suggest it as an option unless you were already 2-3 years into modding and familiarity with scanning/repairing/deeply understanding your car.
Yes, I own one of the two cars I mention. John Wikoff (Moderator) has the other. And I can tell you that in my experience (also owning a 95 supercharged), you're much better off selling the car and buying a newer one than going through all the headaches. I didn't upgrade for more power, it was more of a situation where I was trapped in an 'untunable' state through other mods, and it was a prime opportunity to try it out. I have the luxury of a 'toy' car, and a daily driver.
