Supercharger Oil???
I havent heard this one before so I thought Id double check. I called Summit Racing looking for some SC oil & they told me to use Red Line power stering fluid part # RED 30404. I was a bit confused to hear this but they also gave me Red Lines phone number to call & make sure. So I called & spoke with one of there techs who said that it is very similar to the GM oil used & was what they would use. It was recomended as a replacement for several other SC vehicals as well.
Has anyone heard of this before, or tryed it? I've never had Summit lead me wrong before, & I would think Red Line would know there stuff but I just wont to be safe. I went ahead & ordered a bottle I figured if everybody says its a bad idea than the power stering pump will get a fluid change insted.
I was going to order from Intence but I couldent find a phone number for them on their site. I wont order things from on line, plus Summit will have it to me next day not sure with Intence.
Anyway any thoughts on this? I assumed that the SC oil was a thicker oil than this but I havent had it open yet so Im not sure.
BTW this is for a 2000 Bonnie SSEI. Thanks for any help.... Joe

SC oil is so NOT anywhere close to power steering fluid. Power steering fluid is HYDRAULIC oil. Similar to ATF.
GM supercharger oil is based on animal fats, not petroleum. There may be some type of supercharger out there that uses what RedLine says, but yours doesn't. Don't risk putting ANYthing in there other than the right stuff.

Agreed. Only use GM SC oil in your car. All GM dealers stock the oil, so it should be easy to find. If you want to order from intense, they will take an order over the phone 614.873.6499. You can get it sent next day delivery.

I believe it says somewhere that synthetic 5w30 can be used instead, but for peace of mind, I'd just go ahead and buy the real deal stuff either from a dealer or like Intense

Thanks for the replys guys, point taken & Ill look for the actual SC oil. I dont think it would matter that it is a Synthetic either though right? As for dealers around here no one has it that Ive tryed yet of 3 out of 5 GM dealers. I dont need any other problems than I already have had so Id rather play it safe.
Also how full do I need to fill the SC? Dose it need to be to the Bottom of the plug? I pulled it out today to have a look at the fluid & at the moment it is app 1/2" below the bottom of the plug. It actley looks pretty clean, but man that stuff stinks. Kinda like the funky gear oil smell but not as strong.
I just had the fun of replaceing the crank position sensor today. Aftrer having the balancer off & back on four times I finaly got it. The first sensor I bought was bad for some reason & after putting it in the car wouldent start. Replaced the old one & it started tryed the new again & nothing. Pulled it back out ran back to the parts store to swap it got that new one in a bingo shes running. Actley started on the slightest bump wich it hasent been doing. Also had to replace the oil pressure sensor cause it was shot. And to top it all off pulled the intake so I can replace the leaking gaskets there.
I was quite suprised at how easy everything on the intake came apart. Ive had NA motors that were more of a pain than this was. I just hope putting things back goes as smoothe.
On a side note GM should be shot for ever putting Dex-Cool in cars. I flushed the system when I first got this car about six months ago & replaced it with the Green stuff. Well when it came out it wasent green It was a funky dark Orange. There was that funky Dex-Sludge in the water passages & all over any bolt that passes through one. I thought I had everything flushed because I ran a ton of freash water through the motor when I done it. I filed it ran it to temp two or three times all with the heater on in the car, & ran a hose through it for a good five minutes with no thermastat & it still didnt get it all apparently.
Hopefully tommrow I can find someone who has the right Oil, & get everything else back togeather ok. If all this dosent fix the fits this car has been having Im going to shoot the damn thing.
