Default L67 Supercharged Potential

ok, what i would like to know (and I am sure many of these individual topics have been discussed before but never put all together) is what kind of potential does the L67 series 1 have?

like, I would like to build the engine and tranny so that they are beefier (maybe 300 hp range) but still usable as a daily driver. what are good investments and what are not? what are things that the average joe could afford with say, a few grand at the most to get the most bang for their buck?

i only ask because I bought my frist car thinking that I would be able to find alot of aftermarket support but most that is available is either junk or way too expensive. I figured starting with an engine that was meant for boost this time would make my chances of successful modding more realistic and I know that the 3800 is a keeper.

I'm a GXP Owner with the Northstar V-8 and some of the V-6 tech guys might show on sunday, always a slow day. I can tell you that a member here that'* the senior Moderator has put several thousand in his '97 and done a 13.1 down the 1/4 mile. Now doing some oher things to it and he'* sure he'* well down into the 12'*. And it'* his daily driver. Nice to meet you and hope you stay around, quite a few here that have unlocked the potential of the L67. Check out INTENSE-Racing.com - Grand Prix, Bonneville, Regal, L67 3800 Supercharged Performance Products. . They are the cream of the aftermarket crop for 3800'*

honestly, and i am being completely honest the Series one is not a performance engine. You will never have a quick or fast car. The Supercharger is too inneficient, and the motor is not made to Rev.

if you still like the Bonneville and want something decent, look for a Series 2

Im not being racest to the S1 rather stating the facts

Say it aint so, Pat. Say it aint so. Covers Will'* ears. I have heard that all along, but to be the devil'* advocate. Will a FWI/CAI, slightly smaller pulley, and a reflashed PCM wake this car up a bit. Obviously it'* not going to come up to speed with our modern versions. But if a guy has one, cant afford to swap and does these things (doesnt take a bankroll of cash) wont you notice the dif?

well, thanks for being honest. the only thing drawing me to the bonneville is price. being a teenager getting ready for college, money isn't all that available. I want to get a Buick Regal GS but i don't have an extra 4 grand sitting around (thats 4 grand after I sell my alero) and Grand Prix GTP'* are too much as well. All other 3800 */c cars are fugly IMO so that leaves the bonneville. My friend has one and thats pretty much why i am on this forum. She'* going to get a new car in the spring (her dad'* going to buy her a brand-new car) and she said that she'd sell me the SSEi for a grand which is a deal that I couldn't pass up. so thats why i am here...

The problem is, options are a bit slim below 97, Options such as headers, rockers, PCM tunes and such just arn't there for 96 and down. There are some things that can be done, but the tranny is a weak link with very few options.

ok, that brings me to a new question...is the 95 ssei equipped with the 4T60E or the 4T60E-HD?

the tranny, either way, seems to be over-kill for the amount of stock power from these cars

I'd have to ask Toddster to be sure, That'* the same tranny he has. I do believe it'* not a HD tranny which is why we have not done to much modding to the engine.

That I can't say for sure. I was not able to find anything for another member a few months ago. But I was mainly looking for a shift kit.
