SC coupler on a 97
Hi all...
After gathering my information as to the rattle or tumbler sound from my SC (take off belt and feel slop when turning sc pulley left and right quickly) it was apparently a coupler. Using supplied info from members, ZZP coupler and two bottles of SC oil were ordered.
They came in today. Lakeville told me the basic procedure and it was right on. Attaboy Nate! Even gave me the official rating as 1 1/2 beers. 45 minutes.
Here goes...camera batteries were dead...so Kenn...take your pics thing and you know what.
Car is cool and having sat for 4 hours. Lift hook. Disconnect negative battery terminal. Take off both belts and let them sit. Unbolt 3 botls from front of alternator and one from the back...flop toward strut bar and zip tie to it. Use old sprayer from windex to spray out old oil. Pull the SC bolts off the nose cone and remember there'* one under the nose cone...braille on that one...can't see it. Plus one that holds the nose to the intake. Tap gently with rubber mallet back and forth. Pieces seperate and smell happens. Clean all parts w/brake cleaner...yep..no open parts to worry about. Pull old coupler off and slide new one on. Use a superthin layer of copper RTV to seal it back up and reinstall nose cone. Refill w/two bottles of SC oil that brings it to the bottom of the threads and reassemble alternator and belts...
Test drive and enjoy no more rattling.
Very easy and not even too smelly. I expected worse.
