Default Boost gauge...Which one is best?

I have a 1993 Oldsmobile 98 Touring Sedan with the Series ONE Supercharged engine.

I would like to install a small accurate boost gauge and I am looking for anyones suggestions on what kind and if there is a correct hook up procedure to get the most accurate reading. I plan on doing some light modifications to it in the future including a chip, a pulley, and a high flow cat. The car is stock now and I am just interested in finding out what I have now in the way of boost as a benchmark so I will be able to tell if I am gaining anything. I don't want to go crazy on the car or anything...I would just like for it to keep up with a stock Series II.

Thanks in advance for all your comments and help.

Any good gauge manufacturer will do. Find one that fits with the interior look you are aiming for and go from there.

I found Bill W'* thread in forced induction when searching on Map and willwren (his username)

Pretty much says that there is a map sensor and you should be able to T off that line for the gauge. Maybe you want to follow the link and see what his gauge looks like.

If the car did not come with a boost gauge, there is NO MAP sensor. You tee in to a vac line where indicated in that topic.

The boost gauge I used in my 95 was a SunPro. It had the closest range to what I wanted.

Ideally, you want a -25 (or so) to +15, but good luck finding one of those.

Mine runs from -30 to +20, as a performance pulley can run you out of the 10 psi gauges real quick.

Get manual boost gauge (autometer) and 'T' it into the hard like going to the FPR. Then run hard plastic line into the cabin.

If you go that route, make sure you get a 'boost/vacuum' gauge, not a 'blower pressure' gauge.

That gauge is the same range as the SunPro in my 95.

This is mine:

I blacked out the rim and didn't use their corny bracket. I also used a red Gel for the lamp so it'* backlit red at night to match my other gauges.
This is a $30 gauge, and works great.

Thanks "willwren".

Can you please spell out what a "FPR" is?

Do you have any pictures posted of where you placed your boost gauge? I realize I have the now orphaned Oldsmobile, but you never know...you might just give me an idea of where to place mine.

I saw the ones you have pictured in the Jegs catalog. I will probably go with the black face/white numbers Autometer version.

Also: Where exactly is the map sensor on my 93 Series I and does it have wires or vacuum hose going to it?....I know that question might scare you as far as my mechanical ability, but I can assure you, I won't let you down.

Also...Where is the best place to find a drilled 180 degree thermostat?

Thanks to everybody that has helped. This sight is great. They will even help the Oldsmobile crowd!

FPR is a fuel pressure regulator. It'* inside the fuel rail on the back side, the only thing with a vac line running to it in the fuel rail.

YOU HAVE NO MAP SENSOR if you didn't get a factory boost gauge like my SSEi. Can't stress that enough. Don't waste time looking for one.

See how I tee'd in? This vac line goes directly to the FPR on the back side of the SC/Fuel rail.

Gauge location. I wanted stealth. The pillar pod is in the SSEi, but won't ever have one in the SLE/SC.

WoW. That certainly answers that. Thanks for going to all the trouble for those detailed pictures.

That is everything I need to know to get a vac/boost gauge in my Touring Sedan!

One more question and this thread is done: Where is the best place to go to get a drilled 180 degree thermostat?

Thanks again.
