Default Supercharger Questions

Hi everyone, I am a new member looking at buying my first SSEi. I need to know what the supercharger should read on the gauge at idle and when driving. Also how do I know the supercharger is OK.Car runs great and drives nice but the gauge always reads at -70 and does not move, I pulled it over and put it in neutral and gave it a shot of gas and it bogged out the back fired and reved right up. Just need to know what to look out for so I don't end up buying a lemon. Any input would be great. Thanks guys.......Steve

at idle it will read -10psi

when in neutral and reved, it should get to about zero

when in gear and reved it should get about 7-8psi, and when floored maybe up to 10psi

when in neutal the boost is bypassed

i had to replace the BCS (boost control sylanoid) in my ssei

The 8-digit GM part number is 12353309 (for 92-95), about $30 from gmpartsdirect.com

you can bypass the BCS to see if its not working...check out the post i made, but make sure to read the whole thing

also, be sure to put your year and trim model in your signature so we can tell what you are working with

Hey, nice to see ya here!

One thing to check on the SC (beyond what is already posted) is the coupler. If you can, loosen the serpantine belt and see how the SC spins. If there is play in the pulley you may need a new coupler. This is a $25 part but you do need to take the SC off to fix it (requires more parts, like gaskets, to remove and reinstall the SC). This usually starts to go around 100,000 miles.

Are the readings different on the gauges in Canada? Mine show -70 _ 0 _ 70 Just wondering. I also have some of the warning lights on in the dash, and the ABS light is on as well.

Default supercharger questions

were is the sending unit for the gauge that reads the boost? If the blow off valve is stuck open will it always read -10? MIne always reads -10 even when you rev it. By the way its a 1993 Green on tan SSEi with 273 000kms with a new supercharger about 2 years ago. Car is being sold as is, just don't want to buy something that I am goingto have to dump alot of money into. Thanks for all your info and help........

Read the link that harofreak00 put up. Basically you need to plug a vaccum line at the bottom of the actuator that dumps the boost. The actuator is black and looks like a little can on the front of the supercharger under the cover on the supercharger. I did this when testing my bcs and found that mine was bad also. If the car is idling and you listen close to the supercharger right by the snout and hear rattling, then your coupler needs changed. Most of the guys here use the couplers from zzperformance.com But the more i think about your problem it kinda sounds like the actuator is stuck open and not allowing the supercharger to make any boost. I would say that or the guage might not be working, but i would still test the bcs since it is so easy to do. Good luck and get back to us with your results or any more questions, we are always happy to help.
