Safe with a 50 shot of nitrous?

Default Safe with a 50 shot of nitrous?

An expert on nitrous I know that has installed it on well over a hundred cars tells me I would be fine running a 50 shot. What you guys think and is anyone else doing it? Thanks for the help

safe = for sure


power = for sure

reliablity of any stock drivetrain with nitious = unsure.

You risk a lot, there is a lot of added heat already with the supercharger.

Is it worth doing it = no IMO

For what it would cost for a professional quality nitous install you could get a cam, rockers, IC, smaller pulley, etc.

I'm not to sure about how safe nitrous is to run often on our cars but from a reliability stance I would not recommend it. Plus with the 3.4" pulley shouldn't your stock manifolds be pretty well maxed out flow wise? Maybe a set of headers is a better choice before nitrous.

I'm a firm believer in Nitrous being a last resort and a poor choice. In GXP Venom'* case, he doesn't have many options for the Northstar. But he also has the budget to be able to react to any oopses.

Nitrous is somewhat of a bad word around here, and I'm one of the people that gets a foul taste in my mouth when I use the word. We've had members in the past use it and try to compare their performance to others.

Simply strapping a bottle on and being quicker is cheating the system IMO. Nitrous has gained this bad repuation due to the import tuner crowd.

The way I see nitrous is it'* a easy to bolt-on-cheat. I wouldn't use it because its really not fair, and after a couple strong uses, the engine will be about toast. The 3800 may handle it real well, but I don't recommend it at all.

Nitrous is something that could be handled by the motor, but the tranny will act up. It'* not too fond of the stock power output from the engine the way it is.

I personally don't care if you use NOS, but I personally won't be seen using it for a long time, if ever.

I believe a 50 shot should be safe, but I wouldn't use it every time you take off.
Theres quite abit of other modsyou can do for more power, but it'* you're car.

I agree.... dam it took me 18 hours to feel my ears burning from someone mentioning my name.

The Zex system I use has a computer and variable selenoid valves that react to things like fuel pressure, oriface size, bottle pressure, and TPS voltage. And anyone who thinks it'* just a bolt on and go system has no idea. Alot of wrenching, wiring and tuning went into this system. You set the computer to activate at any given TPS setting.

The days of the old hit the switch and dump pregiven amounts of gas and nitrous regardless of speed and other variables are all but gone and these systems are what gave nitrous a understandably bad name. Most people here and in general have no idea how sophisticated these NewGen systems have become. Or the work and effort needed to install properly and tune.

And as stated by Zex, the new systems are no more harmfull to engines as any other type of mod. You just dont want to go beyond the torque limits of the bottom end and tranny. I doubt my nitrous will hurt my tranny given they are now bolting 469 Hp */C 4.4'* to them. Allthough I dont know the bounds of a 4T65.

Cheat? Only if I try to hide it.... I spent alot of money and work doing it my way as others do it their way. But at the track fully disclosed info and a green light means who gets there first wins. And I want to win, dam I'm lippy today.....Better get off my nitrous soapbox and go have a beer, I worked up a thirst.

I agree with GXP Venom. There are countless people who are running safe shots who have done the research, set it up correctly, and are enjoying more power for less money. For example, for me to go to the next step power wise would require a cam or heads. And cam is cheaper, yes, and it'* also on my to do list. I paid 350 bucks shipped for a NOS Powershot wet kit for the bonne, vs. 1800 for new heads. Since I bought the kit I've done some more research and people have been having problems with the teflon stripping off the supercharger rotors, so the kit will now be going on the trans am until I can find some way to drill and tap the manifold for direct wet injection.

To sum it up, I think if done right, nitrous is safe, but if not, it'll sure screw stuff up quick.
