Default My supercharger is broken too

Its a 93 bonnie */c, stock. Its not being raced, its used as a daily driver, 130k miles, tuned up. Last year, my friend who owned it went to the mechanic, and they charged her $1500 for the repair, but now can't afford the same thing.( The mechanic even said it wasnt covered by warranty because it was a used piece, but my friend plans to sue for it, i mean, DAMN, $1500 and not even a warranty ?)
And i even think its the old one, with a new nose in it. ( I never seen one, but you can tell its was just put there.)

This morning, car started fine, drove fine for 3 miles, and started making a rattling noise ( like when you boil water and you put a lid on the pot, and it rattles ? like that) and then it stopped. I took the belt off, engine started fine, but i tried to move the pulley, it wouldn't, but my friend had it towed to the mechanic, and then the whole mechanic thing ensued...

Anyways, i figured it could be a cheaper way around, and here i am. I was browsing thru another topic, and you guys mentioned the bearings and the nose ? All help appreciated.

$100 or so max tor rebuild it. That takes a whole day tho even with the right tools....you can buy another used unit for ~150 or so to swap on there if you dont know how to rebuild these things.

check out the other thread that was just posted here for more information.

examples:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-38...spagenameZWDVW

not sure if those are for the 92/93 or 94/95 tho

you DO NOT NEED A */C....do NOT buy a new one....your friend got ripped off

its most likely a coupler that is $30 and a couple hours of your time, or you can just get a whole new nose also from one of the vendors in the links section

Pat, read this again:

but i tried to move the pulley, it wouldn't
Need confirmation on this. As a rule, stay away from eBay superchargers UNLESS you run the auction by us first. www.canadiansupercharger.com is the safest bet.

You cannot rebuild a SC for $100 when you take into account all the other gaskets and seals. You're pushing 200 all things considered.

We need a better diagnosis, or we need to get a member near the Miami area to go for a visit/look-see.

Coupler and all the gaskets, sure. But for the bearings and seals also? Double it.

The most important thing right now is to carefully read what he wrote. When he removed the belt, he could not turn the SC. That'* not a coupler, folks.

The best way to check it is to take the belt off and try to turn it back and forth quickly. You will probably feel some slop. That is the coupler.

Now turn it normally and do you feel any grinding or binding?
