Default Nitrous Questions

Anyone have any suggestions on possible nitrous kit selection. Is there anyone out there who is throwing 50-100 shot of nitrous at a Series one and getting good reliable results.
What all should i upgrade before i do this. I have intake 2.55" pulley magnaflow cat/flowmaster muffler no kr. New plugs and wires within last 5k miles. The car absolutely runs like a dream i just want to see the difference at the track.

I read almost every post and I must be missing something. I cannot find any reasons as to why it would blow my engine other then wear and tear and improper use over time. What are the short comings of the series 1 in terms of not handling nitrous with a small shot on a very healthy engine.

I see both sides of picture i have used nitrous with huge results in previous cars with no problem

I have also spent massive amounts of money on internal engine work upgrading turbos stand alone fuel systems with similiar results.

The car has 120k miles on it. Its a daily driver but not my only transportation. Im not talking using nitrous every day but maybe once every couple months.

I would appreciate if willwren could chime in with money figures on what i could do to improve performance..

I figure 650 bucks for complete installation of nitrous kit. And i would have to guess be good for at least half to a full second off quarter mile time on a 50-75 shot (guessing no actual facts involved in those numbers)

What can I do mod wise to my engine for 650 bucks to make about same time gain.

For 650, you could do alot of other things other than Nitrous.

Rockers or a cam come to mind, along with a good FWI and some exhaust. It all depends on how much work you can do yourself.

If you go nitrous, make sure it'* a wet shot. Don't go dry under any circumstances with a supercharger.

The condition of your exhaust manifolds (you better not have any hairline cracks, and probably do) as well as your fuel system MUST be PROVEN to be up to par first.

I've spent less than 650 on my performance mods to date, including gaskets.

My main beefs with Nitrous are that it doesn't tell you squat about your car. I get performance the old-fashioned way. Attention to mechanical details. The other reason is that people tend to end up getting carried away with it. I've seen my share of blown motors from it over the years.

Can you go quicker with Nitrous? Sure. But so can anyone else with a screwdriver. I want to know what my car can REALLY do. What I take to the track is what I drive every day, and I don't have to fill a bottle. Just the gas tank like everyone else.

That'* my opinion and may not be yours, but you may want to think about mechanical mods first. Then look at NO2 later.

Somewhat off-topic, but if you do spray and hit the list, not many people will give you much credit for the time.

"But he ran Nitrous" always comes up. We could fill that list with a bunch of L27'* if everyone sprayed.

I have enough mechanical know how to put a wet/dry nitrous kit on myself but..... i do not have the mechanical know how to port polish install cams so on so forth. Which then costs me to much money to pay people to do it. I drive the car daily and one or two days without it i can survive. But lot of shops will want the parts for a week at a time to do different things. Guess time to buy a 100 dollar beater so i can tear it apart longer.

Where is a good starting point for different series 1 cams i live half hour from intense i just need a freaking series 2 engine lol.

The actual PERFORMANCE parts on my car were within what I stated. The rest were the parts I tested, played with, or tuned with.

If you took the actual power adding parts off that car right now, you could do the same for 650. Certainly under a grand. I'm not in the habit of stretching the truth or embellishing facts on this Forum.
