Default SC Coupler

My nosedrive went and my father and I rebuilt it about 8-12months ago. That means the 2 bearings and oil. He is a machinist so we used his press. At the time we did not replace the coupler. My supercharger has been rather noisy and there is some backlash/wobble to the pulley before the rotors are engaged.

My lack of memory has me asking this question: Will I need to repress anything to replace this coupler, or is it simply unbolting the nosedrive from the SC, replacing the coupler, and bolting it back up?

Also - I was given 2 bottles of supercharger oil because that is what the instruction said to put in. We could only fit one bottle in. The supercharger simply wouldn't hold anymore. Anything to worry about and will I have to change the oil again after removing the nosedrive?

Thank you.

You will not need to press anything with a coupler change. First suck all of the old SC oil out with the nozzle of a spray bottle, otherwise the oil will drain all over your block when you remove the nosedrive. Then, simply remove the nosedrive and replace the coupler.

Series 1 M62'* only hold 1 bottle
Series 2 M90'* hold 2 bottles

So yes, you will need to change the oil again.

A little thing Mr. Former Series 1 failed to mention is that you'll need a new SC gasket and two yellow o-rings. You must remove the SC entirely from the car. You cannot pull the nosedrive off the M62 while it'* in the car like you can the M90.

Rollingperformance.com talks about a viton seal? Any need to pay attention to replacing that?

Series 1 M62 I take it.

Are the two yellow o-rings the ones that sit on the bottom of the SC? I do recall something similar. Where can I get these o-rings rollingperformance does not seem to list them.

If you get the fel-pro 'plenum gasket' it will come with the yellow o-rings. If you get a gasket from the dealer, you must also purchase the o-rings seperately. Do not re-use yours if they're over 6 months or so. It'* not worth trashing your engine with coolant. It'll kill your rod bearings.

Don't buy the viton seal for a supercharger over 100k miles. The input shaft has been worn by the OEM seal and has left a small groove. This is normal, but the 'stiffer' viton has a hard time breaking in to that groove, and your nosedrive may leak oil for a month or two until it seats.

Get the nitrile seal. M90 and M62 bearings, seals, and coupler are all the same.

Thank you, one last question. I do not remember seeing a spot for this nitrite seal. Would I be able to easily locate and replace this seal once the nose drive is off or is further disassembly required?

It'* behind the pulley. You'll have to be careful getting it out if you're not doing a full rebuild. Drill a couple small holes in it, and pry, pull it out. Remember there'* a bearing right below it.

I dunno. I pulled just the nose on my 98 to do this and ended up having to replace the entire SC gasket later on because I caused a leak.

My safe advice would be to pull the SC and replace the gasket on any 3800 SC.
