Default 97 SSEi Boost gauge

97 SSEi / factory boost gauge
Since I pulled the air box out and put on a cold air intake , My boost is showing only 2-3 at mid to high rpm'*, Was showing 5-7.
someone said it sounds like a vacuum problem , found a couple small leaks, fixed them but same problem. Any suggestions !

I thought I'd try putting the airbox back on and see what happened.
Boost back to normal ! Only thing I can figure is the cold air intake is letting in more air and one of sensors ( MAF ? )is telling it, it dose'nt need more air and is dumping xtra boost. Not sure which is better, can't really tell difference in power, just can't hear the supercharger as much with the airbox on !
Is there something to do to use the cold air intake and still get all boost ?

There are too many people running different intakes for that to be the problem. When you removed the factory airbox.. what did you do with the IAT sensor? (Intake air temp that is in the rubber tubing)

Hey !
There was already a hole in the aluminum intake tube for that sensor.

No. The only situations I'm aware of that boost is commanded to dump:

Park or Neutral
Too much KR
Fuel cutoff limit

If your intake is TOO RESTRICTIVE and limits the amount of incoming air, your boost will read low. I can't say I've ever seen this, even on the worst intakes.

I don't think it'* restricted air ,because I thought the same thing , So I took off the filter and ran it around the block , It was the same as with the filter on.
Only time boost went back to normal was when I put the stock airbox back on.
How do you check for to much KR ? and what is KR ? :?

KR= Knock Retard

It pulls timing when it senses pre ignition.

The only way to check it is with a scan tool while on the road ( a code reader won't work )
