Default Tach doesn't go to 0rpm when off

Hey

Just noticed something the other day. When I shut my 97 off, the tach drops down to 600rpm. It never goes down to zero. I thought that was odd, and I've checked it everytime I shut the car off, and when I start it up. It always seemed to be between 500rpm and 750rpm.

Anyone else think this is odd? Anything I should worry about?

Mine does that too... the next day when I go to start it up, it has moved down to 0 but right when I turn the car off it seems to stick right around that number. I don't think that it is anything to worry about, at least I hope it'* not anything to worry about.

Maybe when you turn your car off, it'* still running at 600 rpm'* REALLY quiet. Have you been getting shitty mileage?

That'* normal.

I personally would worry more about what it does at the other end. Off at 600 or so don't sound bad as I've never seen mine running below around 800/900 or so.

And you can never tell what these electronic gauges will do. The old direct cable ones were much easier to figure out. When they worked, they worked. When they didn't, you got a new cable.

Curosity killed the cat you know. I had to go down and look at mine. The needle on mine sets below the 0 mark when I shut it down.

funny.....
The mileage has been ok... 450kms per tank.... and I drive with a lead foot.... so that'* not too bad.

I guess the tach not going down to 0rpm is somewhat normal.... damn analog devices.... just like the speedometer not reading what the HUD is reading (I find things like that really annoying). Nothing I can do/have fixed I suppose... darn.

It'* probably your multi-connector on the back of the Cluster......
Pull the cluster & re-connect the connector again. Bonnevilles have a very bad issue with this, as the connector slowly loosens off due to vibration. I use to re-do mine about every 6 months. The good news is that with practice, you too can do the entire job in under 7 minutes!

There may be some specs of dust in the meter movement causing it to hang at 600 when power is off. As long as it indicates in the correct range with engine running I wouldn't worry about it, not worth it.

Where does the tach sit when you put the car in run without starting it?
