broken multi-function lever
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum but am a long time Pontiac Bonneville (SSE) owner. Last night I went to switch on my high beams and something broke within the multi-function lever. A piece of black plastic fell out onto the floor and it would no longer switch the high beams on and off. All other functions of the lever still seem to work but for how long I am not sure. The lever doesn't seem normal anymore. I have gone on line to try to find a replacement multi-function lever assembly but have not been able to come up with any matches. I have called it everything I can come up with and still no matches. Does anyone know what this thing is called or what the part number might be? Also how difficult is it going to be to replace this thing? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem on my 99...no high beams but everything else still works. From my research, this involves taking the steering wheel off, airbag off, just to be able to get to it. It requires special tools and caution due to the air bag. That black piece that fell out goes inside it down in the column.
So, unless you have the tools and are comfortable in disconnecting power to avoid airbag deployment this is something for a dealer or other shop. I am waiting to take mine in.

Thanks for the reply WILDSIOUX. I did a little research of my own and found out that the little black plastic part that fell out is the headlamp dimmer switch actuator. I thought mine was broken but in checking pictures of the replacement part, I discovered it was not. I was really hoping that the part could simply be replaced in the stalk assembly but it doesn't sound like that'* going to happen. Let me know how things turn out.
