Now THAT was WIERD! (Now w/ pics)
Ok, gravenge has been dormate for at least 3 months now. I decided to put the battery charger on her for this afternoon then take it off this evening and start her on up. Well, the weather has been cold lately, there is still snow on the ground and it'* in the high 20'* right now. I noticed quite a bit of frozen condensation on the underside of gravenge'* hood.
Now the wierd part, I start her up once, she struggled to turnover and spark. Once I did she dies instantly. Second time I gave her some gas, held it for a bit then let her "Idle" for a bit. The "VOLT" gauge was lit up, but no other warning lights were illuminated. I notice there is quite a bit of smoke outside, I go out and there is smoke PORING out of the engine bay, from the belt area. I scramble to turn the damn car off. By the time I get back out, I hear this snap. Look a bit closer, that was my alternator belt. I see plenty of shredded belt shavings.
So, what would cause THIS?! Any idea'*? Dormate car sindrome? My alternator take a puke again? (Remember, one of my hood vents are positioned above my alternator and the alternator is showing some rust on the top part) I'll post pics tommarow once it'* a bit warmer and I have some light.
Thanks guys!

Well, if some water got into the alternator, it could have frozen and seized the alternator.
You must be able to turn it freely now.
It struggled and died because it was trying to slid a belt over a non rotating part.
Could it be another pulley that seized?
Now that'* one way to smoke that rubber.

That'* a good smell isn't it
If the pulley froze so hard that you smoked a belt from it, you'll probably need a new one. Is your current one under warrenty?
