Default weird ac setup

Alright, so when I got my SSEi, the dealer put this stupid red switch down by the audio gain thingy that is supposed to control the ac. It works, but I would like to move the control back to the control panel. The thing is that I don't know if it works or not (the panel), as the temperature blinks a bit when starting up, and doesn't stop until a few minutes. I have access to a '97 panel that looks a bit different, can I swap them cleanly? fyi, the switch runs straight to the relay that controls the ac comp. The ac DOES work

This is an electrical issue. Moved accordingly...

Somewhere on this site is instructions on reading the fault codes for your Electronic Climate Control (ECC). When the ECC head unit flashes like it is, it means it found an error during its self-check. By pressing a certain combination of buttons and holding your mouth just right, you can read the error codes and get a clue to what'* wrong. One thing that is certainly wrong is the manual control for the A/C. Something is definatly not right with that.

The 97 head unit will not work in your 92 unless you swap the HVAC Controller as well. Otherwise it is pretty much a bolt-in operation. I did this swap on my 93 and can now tell the car where I want the air to come out.

I got a 48, which is long term freon loss...
oooo crap, that doesn't sound pretty.
What are the things I need to check, and more importantly, how much is this gonna cost me

Didn't you say your A/C works when you push the red button? If that'* the case, I'd be suspicious of that error code. It could have something to do with the button. Does the temperature setting work on your ECC? I.E. if you set it at 70, does it lower the fan speed and adjust the temperature automatically?

What I'm getting at is I wonder if the code is a result of the compressor being kicked on manually as opposed to the ECC controlling it automatically.

Another question is why was the button put there in the first place? Hmmm....

Funny you'd mention it, because the auto setting has never really worked. If you turn it up high enough, though, it does turn on the heater. Good thing, too, because before last week (gave it more coolant), it was running pretty hot.
