Seat Woes

Seat Woes
I have a 93 Bonneville that I love and I can't figure out what the deal with half of the seat positions. I have the 12 way seat position switches center, between the driver and passenger seats that control both seats by selecting either "left" or "right". Last week, half of the switches ceased to function for both seats. Please help. I have read your posts before and I have found them to be helpful so I am hoping for insight on this one too.
Thank you to all who reply.

It would be the air operated ones. The deflate works fine but the inflate does not work for either passenger or driver. Do these seats operate off the air pressure from the air compressor under the hood? If so, I know the compressor works because I can inflate my tires with it.
Thank you for such quick response.

I don't know the electrical system well enough to advise on fuses but i want to say that my driver seat was the only one that had trouble. and now that i thought about it some i think it was all the air functions that quit on the drivers side only. it was a plug that came out on the drivers seat that wouldn't let the compressor operate (and the compressor is under the passenger seat...) Hope all that helps a little.

Well Darrel,
Thank you for telling me where the air compressor is; it allowed me to trouble shoot further. I should have figured it out since that is where the noise comes from during operation. I disconnected and took out the air compressor and ran it strait off the battery and it works both for inflation and deflation so it is not a failure of the compressor. That would be too easy. I did notice a clicking noise from each seat while trying to activate each air compressor switch but I doubt that the black box under each seat from where the sound comes from would fail at once. There is also a third small black box that clicks under the passenger seat that clicks while trying to deflate but not during inflate. Perhaps this is the fault. If not, I am lead back to the switches. The third small black box is located under the passenger seat, inboard (toward the centerline of the car) and tucked up just under the foam. When the switch is activated a click can be felt from the box. I am wondering if anyone can locate the box on their car and feel if the box clicks both during inflate and deflate. I know that this is somewhat crappy trouble shooting but it may lead me to an answer and I can take the mystery piece in and get a new one and at the same time figure out what went wrong and post it. I will however, take a look at my Hanes manual to see if they have electrical schematics of the electrical flowpaths

Most likely what the problem is, is that the compressor locked up.
It happened to mine also. The compressor just locks up. You take it apart, clean it, put it back togather and it works again
