You guys also need to remember the gauges don't work the same between all models of the same year. Some have the sweep function on startup, which may have some kind of effect here.

I believe mine has the "sweep" function you are talking about will.... I know for sure that my gas gauge sweeps before settling down, but I haven't paid attention to my RPM... I'll check that today and see what happens.

w/ our 97 the gas is the only thing to sweep, while on the 00 all of the gauges do a full sweep at the same time (looks kinda neat). I guess I am easily amused.

My 93 (if I remember correctly) sweeps all but the Speedo. And my Tach doesn't sit on 0 when I shut it off.

Ok.. just ran outside in the subzero temps and checked it....

Speedo and Tach don't sweep, but both zero themselves and remain zeroed when you get out of the car. Kinda weird but whatever, nothing big to worry about.

I watched it today, and they didn't sweep... Whats the deal ? The Gas gauges on ALL GM cars sweep even when you're driving, so don't worry about that

I think only the SSE and SSEi sweep back and forth when you start it.

I don't know if there'* an 'official' term for it, but I'd call it a 'diagnostic sweep'.
