Default Strange starting issue...help!

I have a 95 SSE with a starting problem that has me puzzled.

The problem started showing signs afew months back.I would turn the key to start the engine and get nothing but an electrical clicking sound(hard to explain the noise) anyways....I'd turn the key back and try again...would start fine.

The battery eye is green..always.

Last night I parked the car for 2 hours...when I tried to start it....all it did was click away again, but this time the interior lights were dim as if the battery was dying.I checked the battery ,the eye was still green, made sure cables were clean and tight....still nothing but clicking.

I walked home and returned with another car to boost it.....before doing so,I tried to start it.....it clicked away abit, then started turning over...and fired up,the interior lights and headlights brighten as if a switch was just turned on.This morning the car started fine....and battery is still showing in the green....something is about to fail, but I don;t know what I should be looking for.....any ideas?

Try cleaning the battery cables at both ends. Confirm you have good grounds by cleaning them as well.

Also look at the battery cables for signs of corrosion. Let us know if that solves the issues.

Do you have a voltage meter? If so, check the voltage at the terminals of the battery and see what it drops to while cranking. If it drops below about 7 volts, the battery does not have enough power left in it to drive the starter. The green eye shows that it is charged well enough to test, not necessarily to run the starter which draws a huge amount of current.

Edit - That'* after cleaning everything up, if that doesn't solve the problem. Corroded terminals at the battery will cause a low reading also.

(you might have to refresh the vid a few times)

I had the problem....it was a bad cell in the battery

Check the terminal on the starter where the heavy wire is connected. Mine went loose and I had the similar noise

A few things to check for:

The starter solenoid sounds like the culprit to me. Sometime if you bang on the starter...it'll start to work again for awhile but start making the same sound after a few starts.

The other thing i think it would be is the starter being out of alignment. The gear on the starter might be getting bound with the flywheel gear. This might be as simple as tightening the bolts on the starter, to shimming the starter, to replacing the damn thing.

I hope this helps.
