From what I've read in the owners manual, the right side mirror automatically drives down when the car is in reverse. The car is only 2 days "new" to me but I can't control the right mirror from the drivers side mirror switch and the mirror is down as far as it will go. I'm searching and digging for wiring info on where/how it'* connected to know the car is in reverse. I'd like to test it to see if it has power from the door switch, has constant power possibly thinking it'* in reverse or if maybe the motor just failed in that position.

So far, I haven't found any magical search terms that yield an answer on the forum. Any ideas or help with finding a previous thread on this issue would be appreciated since I haven't had a chance to even order the factory service manuals yet and it'* a pain having to bend down to use the darn thing when driving.

Can you manually adjust them back up by pushing on them?

they are connected via the cars network so if everything else on that door works i would suspect the mirror failed in that position, you could check the plug with a meter while you operate the switch and see if its getting power

Well, like Mike said, you can manually push the mirror back to the correct position.....then, I believe you can go into customization, in the DIC, and disable the "reverse" feature, to prevent it from happening again in reverse........

As for diagnosis, you can attack from the switch at the driver'* door, or at the connection to the mirror on the PS....but you need a schematic.....

The mirror tilt in reverse is a programmable feature and you can turn it off.

No Mike, darn thing will not budge. Didn't get too heavy handed but pushed rather hard. Driver side works perfectly still.

Now I'm wondering if that'* why it won't go back up. Last I knew, should something failed internally to the mirror, the driver is suppose to be able to manually adjust them.

Okay, so first thank you all for the advice and info. Due to a freak accident at work today, I wasn't able to pursue the issue when I got off. Unfortunately, typing is a task since I now have a rather deep hole in my left palm about 3/4" deep from a long #2 screw bit. I love my Ridgid power tools but the drill slipped at full speed and buried the bit in my left palm and tore up muscle tissue.

So, here'* what I did learn. The mirror tilt function is already disabled in the Vehicle Data section on the DIC. It absolutely refuses to move although I remember the one on the GP going out and it moved when I adjusted it manually although it made some not so cool popping sounds. I must assume that the motor is bad or froze up most likely so I'll throw the multimeter on the wiring plug and verify if there is power when the switch is depressed. If worse comes to worse, I suppose a new mirror might be in order. If I have to change it, maybe I can convert it to one of the ones with the LED lights that I saw on someones car on here that show as a turn arrow.

I'm impressed with the site already and the help and advice is very much appreciated. So many things to learn on this car versus the GP although the 11 years of owning them will be a darn good background on many systems. I think the forum will be half the fun of owning such an impressive piece of Pontiac history!!

if the mirror were stuck trying to move the mirror down, you would hear the motor. it has a built in slip so as not to burn out the motor. if it was burned out, as stated you would be able to move it. my bet is some foregin object got in to the mirror. id take it off the car and shake it around to see if you hear anything. if not id try taking it apart and looking for any foregin objects or obstructions.
