Heya, this is a bit out of the scope of the website but maybe somebody out there has some insight into the problem me and a friend are having with his 1975 Porsche 914. Its a fully functioning "project" car we tweak every so often and for christmas I got him an MSD Blaster 2 coil. I chose Blaster 2 because it'll work with stock ignition and works better with an MSD ignition box, which he'* upgrading to shortly so it worked out nicely. Only thing is he has a "Universal" (yea thats a company) Optical Distributor which required removal of the 0.8ohm ballast resistor. When we unplugged the stock coil and plugged in the MSD it ran like CRAP. Backfired, couldn't get over about 400rpm, sputtered like it was out of gas, just nasty in all and undriveable. We quickly shut it off and went about troubleshooting. According to MSD it needs that 0.8ohm ballast resistor if using stock points or Mallory Unilite applications. He doesn't have a points or Mallory ignition but I can't expect MSD to cover ALL possible conflicts. Has anyone ever had a similar problems? I ask because for a lot of you the Bonneville isn't the first and only car, many have older cars they may have tweaked or maybe even had a similar problem. I'm checing with other sources but in the mean time I'd appreciate any input.
Stuff got done.
