Default PND123 Lights don't work

I was told to post this here. The "lights" that indicate what position the shifter is in on my 95 SSEi do not work. (I think they should be orange to match the rest of the lights.) Everything else in the car appears to light up fine, including the HUD. Any ideas? Is this a fuse or something?

There is a GM bulletin on replacing this for dim lighting/inop, other than that check the bulbs.

Mine is the same. I've ripped it all apart and found everything working. I am still not sure if they should light up or not, but there are no burnt out bulbs in there. The best I could tell is that it may use the same bulb as the ash tray (if you were to dig in there you'd know what I mean).

To get in there, pull the 2 screws (T-10 if memory serves) under your ashtray. Remove the clip that holds the shifter handle on (it'* on the front side of the base of the cobra head on your car). Lift the shifter handle off. Now lift the whole center console up. You're IN!

Ok.....we need to make sure we're all on the same page here.

1) I have individual LED'* that light up for whatever gear I have selected.
2) I have the whole PRNDL bezel backlit when my parking lights are on.

I've seen several 95'* that don't have the backlit feature (not in person, just heard about them here), so the question is did Pontiac leave this out? What other years had which features? Anyone with a 94 that can see if they have both options I listed above, and any more 95'*, or 96 and up?

Are you saying we should have both 1 & 2??? I have just 2 (PRNDL bezel backlit ) only the backlight doesn't really work at all.

You guys want me to shoot a pic tonight? Yes, I have BOTH. The red indicator LED for the gear selected, AND the backlit bezel. The whole panel is backlit.

oohhhh, ok, my memory is comming back now....

I do have both, but they go to different things. The optical lines go to the indicator light (little red dot) and the PRNDL bezel backlit is for the lettering. The lettering is what does not light up even though the lights in there are good. The gear selection light does work.

I don't know why I can't remember, but I THINK I have the PRNDL backlit. If I do it is VERY dim though...almost not noticeable. But I know the red dots for the gear selection do not light up on mine. I'll have to check under the console tomorrow.
