Default blower motor-manual control

Wife started car & heard a loud pop & then the fan wouldn't work. I figured it was a fuse but they all checked good. I drove it to work today so mechanic could check codes on my transmission (another problem) & he also checked voltage at the blower motor & it had battery voltage. Figuring it was the blower motor I bought a new one & put it on. Still doesn't work. Connected each motor to battery & they work. I have battery voltage at the connector (purple wire) at all fan settings weather using eng ground or test lead on black wire (other side of connector). I don't understand why I have 11-12v but motor doesn't at least run on high. Also shouldn't the voltage vary with the fan switch setting? What am I missing? I know I might not be looking at this right but it has me stumped.

Here is the schematic for your application. Same as mine.

I just seen your other post. Because I already replied to this one, moving it to Electrical.

Thanks for the diagram. I got the blowers to work a little but something must be getting hot & causing voltage drop. Low= volt dropped to 7v, med= 6+v, high = 2.9v. Then it quit working. Thought I blew a fuse but I didn't. After about 15min I had 6-7v at connector. Thinking either resistor assembly or relay. Need help locating the resistor assembly. Need layout of relays in engine fuse block. Don't have diagram on cover. Thanks

Blower motor resistor is located above and left of the blower motor, underneath the 2 fuse blocks in engine bay. It'* a tight area to get to.

Here are some diagrams...

OK. The diagram for the resistor block above is not how my 97 looks. It may not matter as the relay is bad. It'* different than the other relays in the fuse block. 5 terminal marked 6158. Is there another one easy to get to on the car? If not I'll get tomorrow after work.

Might be one in the passenger side fuse/relay center. You have to drop the dash kick panel to get to it.
