Default Disabling VATS??

So does anyone know if I could just insert the proper ohm resistor in the circuit and bypass the key switch totally??

Why do the VATS disabling kits come with a relay? Is it because after inserting the key in the ignition the resistance would be doubled if the new resistor wasn't bypassed by a relay?

Ren, you can just insert a resistor. I've forgotten what year your car is? If you put that in your sig, one of us can look up the wires you need. Then just measure your key resistance, and use that value.

oops yeah, I've got a 92 SSE, I already know the wire colors, and bought a resistor, (I've got the factory service manuals). Mainly just trying to figure out why the kit comes with a relay and resistors.

Thanks for the assistance.

The kit comes with a relay and resistors so that the system will work normally 99.9% of the time--the relay is driven by (typically) a remote start system, allowing the remote starter to start the car, when the remote started disengages, the circuit will go back to normal, thereby still protecting the car

Go to this page and check at the bottom for a diagram of how the heck it works:

oops another misunderstanding. I've got the remote starter kit and all the stuff required for it. What I was trying to figure out was why the VATS disable kit from pure performance (which I don't have) comes with a relay?

Thanks again for all the assistance.

If you just install the resistor without a relay, it totally defeats the VATS system on a more permanent basis (unless you pull the resistor)
Using a relay maintains the VATS system, but allows the remote starter to "override" it while in operation

It'* really just personal preference--I installed the relay in mine, but it'* not a requirement to do so

depending on year all need to be done is tap blue wire from vats to computer to ground really fast while cranking engine, then connect to - pulse from injector. It has worked for mine for over a year only time i have ever had to mess wiht it is when I disconnect the battery.

To disable it completely just cut the wires while the car is running. Then let continue to idle for 10 minutes (I think. It might have to be 15). Next time it will start just fine with the wires cut. The down side is the 'Security' light on the dash will always be on.

I just cut the wires from the ingnition key switch and inserted the correct resistors into the circuit taped it back up and I haven't had any issues. My remote starter works fine I just need to finish it up by integrating the locks and the trunk release.
