Default My key and fob were stolen, is there anything I can do?

I have another set of keys and a fob but Im worried that the person who stole the other set will obviously come back and help themselves to my car. Is there anyway to reprogram the factory alarm to a different setting so the old fobs wont work anymore and reprogem new ones? Or can anyone think of something i can do short of getting the car rekeyed? ($1200)...

Thanks in advance for any help.....!!!

O Boy... Sorry to hear that.. Im not the most knowledgable person on this subject so i recommend.. browsing our site for a few minutes or have a seat in our lounge until a pro can help.

While we wait, what kind of car is this we are talking about? where about do you live? If you dont mind, post an introduction of yourself in the new members section. WELCOME

The dealer should be able to reprogram the keys and receiver to a different code so the stolen keyfob won't work. Only problem is the key will still work for the lock itself.

An immobilizer will help the car itself from getting stolen, but not the stuff inside until you have the car'* locks changed.

Not sure there'* much you can do about the keys, but the fob could be fairly easy. Go to www.programyourremote.com and find the programming instructions for your make and model car. A lot of 2000 and newer cars have to be programmed by the dealer, but most 1990s models can be easily programmed by us mere mortals. When you go through the programming cycle with your existing remote, it will lock the lost one out. Of course, you could program a replacement remote while you're at it. They're pretty cheap on eBay.

For around 500.00 You could install this..

http://www.dragon-anti-intrusion.com...ng=en&i=&lieu=

Then don't forget to set up the video camera to record the unsuspecting nimrod breaking into your car loosing his marbles all over the road

There is a procedure for clearing the stored key codes from the chip inside the key head that are stored in the computer. It can store up to 10 keys. So there'* a procedure to clear out the 10 and then you add the keys that you want to still have access. I'll look for the procedure in my Cobalt manual.

The keyfob has to be done with a computer or TECH II. Rekeying the actual lock is needed to keep the door from opening with the key.

I would check with a locksmith that understands the PK+ keying that you have for the cost again. The dealer will be expensive and $1200 is expensive.

sorry to hear about this situation your in mate,i had this happen to me once here in australia :this is what i did::::::i ran a kill switch to my coil/coil pack so that once it was switched on it totally cuts all power to all ignition and engine,be sure to put the switch in a place that only U know where it is!!!!
this would stop them from starting it and steeling the "machine"!!!!! i personally don't know that type of car but does it have 1 or both front doors with locks? in the short term until you could find someone to
do the reprogram on your original set of keys-fob,you could go to a auto shop and get a set of those custom door locks, they come with their keys and are not hard to fit if you have a bit of machanical knowledge, all the above are just suggestions mate,,,,,but i know that when they came back for my car it had a few small scratches around locks and window rubbers!!!!!!!but it stay right where i parked it!!!!!hope this might help, good luck mate!!!
