I agree with rj, if you can turn everything off and still have the voltage at idle drop to 11v something is drawing it down maybe the battery.

plus all alts dont put out near their rated current at idle. this is from their website,"Output Rating – Alternator Output listed is at 1500rpm – Idle Output is 55%-60% of the listed rating."

Valid point RJ. Have heard alot of people swear by Red Tops, and just as many say they failed early. And if it took a dive, ya same scenario. But wouldn't a custom wound HiPo Alternator be able to handle such at an idle. Especailly with everything else off. Lots of things to check for sure. 55 to 60% of 200 amps is enough to weld with,... think about it.

I have 0 gauge monster cable run for the big three and my Amp/Cap wiring. My battery voltage started running low about a month before I upgraded everything. It'* only gotten worse. Even with the subs off, the heater off, and everything else, if I'm sitting in drive at a stop light with the brakes on, my voltage drops below 11. If I throw it in neutral it goes up. As soon as I hit the gas everything goes back to normal voltage wise. None of this makes sense to me because I just upgraded all of my wiring and my belt'* good as well. If anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. She runs kinda rough, not missing or anything, just seems like a rough idle. The plug wires are new. Im at a loss, someone please help!!!
This is what'* happening with my car. At lights, with the brakes applied, the voltage drops. When I let off of the brakes or put it in neutral, the voltage rises to normal. Once I set off, everything goes back to normal. I don't understand. I don't have an amp or anything. It always happens, even when the heat and such are off. I just threw in a remanned alternator and it didn't fix the problem. The next route is add an XS Power battery and pray it solves it. My mechanic said maybe the pressure plates are dirty? I don't know. I'm bringing it in on Friday. I really need this fixed.

Anybody? I'm getting really worried about her now. She hasn't stopped doing it. I'm having the exact same problem. I hit the brakes and the voltage drops. If I throw it in neutral, it rises. And once I start driving, it goes semi back to normal. I'm really worried about her

Man please let me know what you find out cuz i have the same exact problem on my 94. The voltage meter fluctuates only when i'm in idle at a stop light or sign and after the car is warm. I had the battery, alternator, and starter checked. my charging output is 13.75v. my battery read 13.75 and my alternator ran in the high 12'*...12.75 i think. The system was tested with the ac on to full, rev engine, and everything

have either of you tried this, the idea is the alt can better control the charging output

Does your voltage drop when you hit the brakes and come to a stop? Or when you turn the wheel? Mine does that. Everything you listed and I listed, my car does. It does not any sense whatsoever. Nobody can figure it out. . When I turn the wheel, my RPM'* drop. When you turn the wheel, they're supposed to raise. I'm seriously ready to just walk away from her. I don't even know what could be the problem.

Basically, everything you said, verbatim, is what my car is doing. Word for word is what'* happening for me.

I've thought about it, but it won't help. My voltage is dropping when I come to a stop after the car is warm. For no reason whatsoever. Whatever mckcuzzi said, mine is doing. Along with what I've stated. It just doesn't make sense. I wish someone could come up with an answer for this already.
