Will not start
I recently had a starter problem. A friend got another starter from the scrapyard and replaced the one that didnt work. My wife brought the car home and it worked fine until the next day i went to start it and it just went CLICK....I went and boosted it because i thought it might be the battery, and was fortunate enough to start. Then I tried to start it about 2 hrs later and nothing but a click. I went and bought a new battery for it, thinking it was the battery, because I already changed the starter. Still just a click from the starter when i tried to start it. Tried tapping on the starter with a hammer and still nothing.
Its a 1999 bonneville SLE 3.8L.
Can i take the starter out and try to make it turn over just with booster cables and a battery?
Is there any other fuseable link anywhere that might have blown?
HELP IS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED.

I have cleaned the battery ends. Checked the connections for power. Got a spark when i crossed the starter connections with a screwdriver, just like we did in the old days. Still get nothing, not even a click. When I turn the key I can hear a click on the passenger side coming from near the glove box. I guess ill take the starter out tomorrow and check it with some booster cables to see if i can get it to turn over.

Its ok now....went out and got the 2 starters tested...both are junk....had to buy brand new one....works perfect....cleaned up all contacts from battery to starter to relays under the hood. All works great now. Wasted 60$ on trusting someone to get me a starter and put it on....should have done the damn work myself... THANKS FOR ALL UR HELP

we should all think twice before buying electrical parts from bone yard. They are never reliable. Glad to hear you got it fixed, sorry you had to do it twice.
