Default Power for GPS...

Hey all...can someone tell me if it is possible to get power from the dome light compart ment to power my GPS and how would I go about accomplishing the task? Details would be appreciated. I am wanting to put my GPS right next to my rear view mirror with the window mount and would like to make it as invisable as possible! This is for the 2000 SSEi so it does have the control for the sunroof as well. Thanks!!

The best place to tap from in the overhead console is the feed to the HomeLink transmitter (if equipped). Do you have this option? If not, I'll have to look at the wiring diagrams. The problem you may have with connecting into the reading lights is that they are also on a dimmer. This may not be a problem (as I say, I'll have to look), but the first option is quick and easy.

How would I find out if I have the Homelink transmitter...it is a '00 SSEi and I believe it does because it has the buttons underneath to open the garage door and two other ones that I haven't even used???

The HomeLink transmitter is a replaceable module within the console. You may need to drop the headliner to gain access. I'll have to look. There is a single two-wire connector that plugs into the HomeLink module. One is +12V and the other is ground. This is what makes it an ideal location for a low-current item such as a GPS. I'll post some pics later as well.

Here are a couple of pics of the roof console. In the first, you can see the HomeLink module in the upper right hand quarter. In the second photo, you'll see a close-up shot of the power connector. None of the other connectors have only two wires. The ORN is of course the +12V and the BLK/WHT is ground.

According to what I have, you only need to remove the roof console. Instructions are:

Important: Do not let the overhead console hang from the flat wire harness.

1. Carefully pull down on the overhead console to release the four retainer clips.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
3. Remove the overhead console.

This should give you the access you need.

Installation should be the reverse.

Sure, I'll head down. All I ask is in return is first class return airfare and accomodations with meals at a 5 star hotel

Hahahahaha...if I could afford that I wouldn't need you to do it for me!! I wish I did have that much moolah because I would use it to have one giant Bonneville meet and pay for everyone to be there!! Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants?? Thanks,

Mac
