Default Instrument backlighting replacements?

Hi all, just got back from a 1000 mile trio in my "new" 2000 SSEi- what a nice cruising automobile.
Everything works great, except there are a number of backlights that are burned out- drivers heated seat sw, vol control on steering wheel, headlight adjust/dash dimmer control and half the radio-

Well, I searched back 25 pages in this forum- found out where to get bulbs for the radio! but didn't see anything addressing the backlighting issue.

Anyone have any ideas/thoughts or part numbers? All the switches work, they just don't light up at night.

Also, are most of these switches press-in types, pry out carefully? or did GM "magically" put them in my SSEi so I would have to go to the stealer?

Thanks a lot!
Carl

Not all that familiar with your model, but, I would assume the best course of action would be to take apart the item that has blown lights and pull them out, and find replacements. They may be normal dash type lights, or they could be LED like in my Neon.

Either a bunch of bulbs are burnt out, you have a bad lighting module or bad grounds. All three are easy to check with a voltmeter. I'm assuming you checked the fuses.

I'm pretty sure it'* just bulbs- are most of the sws pop-out or are they secured some other way, if anybody knows?
Thanks,
Carl

Default I second this question.... steering wheel radio control bulb

On a 2000 SSei:

Do the little buttons for radio on steering wheel pry out easily for bulb replacement, or is it major surgery??

And if I am reading these posts correctly he buttons on the radio unit itself definately DO NOT pry out from the front, correct?

Since posting that question, I have visited a number of dealers- they say the sw is a complete unit that cannot be taken apart- and I don't have the time to try.

The radio is 3 leds that need to be soldered in- here again, I haev the knowledge, but no time to pull the radio, etc.

Good luck, post if you find anything out!

I believe that Harofreak did an extensive write up on replacing the backlighting on the radio. We won't be able to come up with anything that won't require some time on your part.

they just pry out.. but i have not had those switches apart so i cant tell you whats in them

just the *****, not the buttons... the buttons are just sitting in there once you take the faceplate off

Thanks for the info everyone. So the steering wheel buttons pop out, that is VERY good news. Has anybody done this? If so, please advise on best method to prevent breakage. Thank you!!

the buttons popout as a "pod" .. you need to dig into the rubber surround with a pocket knife and slowly pry around all edge to get them out
