Default Climate Control

:( :(
I have a problem with my electronic climate control, all it does is blow cold air, even when the temperature is put up all the way (32deg Celsius)
I can change the position of the air flow (defrost, vent, floor) with no problem but the temperature control does not work. It has been no problem this summer but since fall is approaching I would like to get it fixed.
What could the problem be??

Thanks

1997 SSEi with 310kms (almost 200k miles)
Only $750 or so in repairs (not including brakes and fluid changes) since new.

I'm not an expert like our gearheads, but I would guess the heater core might be damaged.

Have you scanned your car for codes?
Also, just a thought, you might wanna disconnect the battery for 15mins and then reconnect it... that might reset your climate control.

Is your temp display flashing? That would indicate a fault.

Your cold air problem sounds like the air mix actuator door is stuck to one side.

The climate control doesn't flash on a 97, does it? I thought the ECC self diagnostics ended in or around 94, didn't it?

You might be right. The ECC codes (some of them, anyway) may be sent to the PCM. I know the OBD1 cars WITHOUT ECC send limited codes to the PCM.

Otherwise, only a dealer can troubleshoot your system. The airmix actuator door may simply be stuck or disconnected.

No, the temperature will flash on the newer systems too. You can't retrieve the codes without a scantool, though.

Default Climate Control

Thanks guys for the speedy replies.
I will take a look in behind for a loose vacuum line. The display does not flash. A few weeks ago I only had hot air coming in and my mechanic fiddled with the vacuum lines behind the dash and got the cold air working but now I don't have hot. So it could very well just be a loose vacuum line because every once in a while my supercharger acts a little wonky and hesitates a couple of seconds before pumping out boost which in my understanding means the possibility of a vacuum leak somewhere. I will look at it over the weekend and let everyone know.
Keep up the good work with this website, it is an incredible and most invaluable tool for those of us who drive Bonnies.

Ok, I pulled out the stereo and climate control boxes out of the dash and the kick panel under the passenger'* side. I did not hear any vacuum leaks under there or under the hood for that matter. I disconnected the battery overnight and reconnected this morning and lo and behold the temperature display started flashing when I started up the car. So, I still have no hot air (although I'm full of it). Is there a way on a '97 to check and or change the actuator without pulling the whole dash off???
Thanks.
