Default Some electrical problems....94 SSEi....

Alright, so my previous problem of the car not starting appears to be fixed now, but I won't know for sure until I drive it for a few more days and ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Anyways, my remaining problems with the car are almost all electrical in nature, so here they are. First off, when I got my car back on Thursday, I noticed that the temperature gauge seemed to no longer work - it'* constantly pinned all the way to the left, and I know that the car runs hotter than 100°F. :P I imagine I'll probably go complain to the shop where my car was at and make them fix it; but just for the sake of knowledge, what exactly would cause the one gauge to stop working? All the others seem just fine, as far as readings anyway. Which brings me to my next problem....

Ever since I bought the car, the gauges have not illuminated when the headlights are on. I don't know if the light bulbs it uses are out, if it'* a fuse thing, or what. Assuming I check the fuses (which I've been meaning to do), and it turns out not to be that, that'* probably as far as I'm going to go myself. I realize there are procedures for taking out the dash panel/instrument cluster in Techinfo, but truthfully I'm not one to be doing that kind of thing by myself. So how much could I expect it to cost to get this fixed? I had the aforementioned shop look at it already, and they said they couldn't do anything about it - I'd have to get it fixed at a dealer.

The only other major thing I can think of, is the power locks. They basically don't work. The driver'* door one sort of does, in that I can tell it'* at least doing something. When pressing the lock button on the door, I can hear a clicking, and it will lock if it'* not already locked. However, if it is locked, it will almost never unlock by the switch. This sounds quite a bit like my last Bonneville that had that problem, and I believe I came to the conclusion that it needed a new bumper kit for the door. As luck would have it, I never got to install the thing on the old car; it was totalled first. So I do still have the little bag of parts at home somewhere, and I might get around to that some day. However, with that said - the other three doors do not work at all (with respect to the power locks) - the switch on the driver'* door does absolutely nothing at all with those locks. I hear no clicking or anything. What could be wrong there? How much would this cost to all the locks fixed? I was told by the same shop I've been referring to, that they couldn't find the parts, and again I'd have to get this done at a dealer. I realize that isn't good as far as keeping things inexpensive, but at this point I honestly just want everything to work.

Also - I bought this remote on eBay recently, and I've not yet programmed the car for it (kinda wouldn't be much point in doing so yet, without working power locks). I did buy the correct one, no? (Oh, and I did check the codes on the spare tire cover in the trunk, and I did verify that the car supposedly has keyless entry - I'd be kinda surprised if an SSEi didn't anyway.)

Oh, I almost forgot - also I noticed that one (and only one) of my power seat functions is no longer...functioning. It'* the seat back tilt control; the button/switch on the first row of the panel and all the way to the right. When pressed (for either seat selected), it clicks and moves a tiny bit like it wants to do something, but it won't actually do anything. How would I go about fixing this, and how much would it cost? Would this have to be a dealer repair as well?

Edit #2: I just thought of another little thing - one of the license plate bulbs seems to be out. The bulb numbers in Techinfo mean nothing to me...where would I buy one of these lights? That'* something I could actually do myself, I think. :P (It also looks like one of my rear brake/tail lights has a small crack in it - but apparently large enough to let in air or something; earlier I noticed condensation inside the lamp. Yet another thing to be replaced....)

As always, thanks for reading and/or replying.

Check to see if your coolant temp sensor is plugged in, and try to track the wiring and look for any shorts or breaks. I can't help ya with the door locks. As for the Keyless, if you have one remote that came with the car, match the numbers on the back side, if they match you're in buisness.

The car didn't come with a remote when I bought it, unfortunately.

I'll try to see if I can find the wiring for the coolant temp sensor too.

I think that the remotes for certain yr ranges may be compatable with out matching numbers....Since you don't have another remote....then just try and program this remote and see if it'll accept it on the car end.

Your dash problem is going to be a broken fuse above the brake pedal.
