alternator rebuild
Another member (I forget who) said that the DP alts are just GM units with high current coils and stuff. Is this true? and would it be possible to just rebuild my alternator with stronger components?

The regulator is buried in the back half of the alternator case. You could probably have this done by a pro, but I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. Getting the case aligned and torqued correctly to preven bearing/shaft damage is quite a trick. Any binding will prematurely kill your alt.
Take yours to a pro for rebuild with factory specs, or buy a performance unit.

Where would the parts be available? I may know a few people that could help me out. I wouldn't consider doing it myself lol

This alternator is a 1 wire hook-up(positive battery wire only)
It will replace the older Delco 10DN, 10SI, 12SI
When using this alternator to replace those units, you would just tape off your existing wires and run the positive battery wire to the post on the back of the alternator
Note-Vehicles Alternator No Charge Light(Idiot Light) will not function when using this alternator
If your vehicle has a Volt Meter, it will function as usual

First of all, I'd determine if your current alternator is lacking, then if it is, look for a reputable warrantee-backed unit.

I WOULD but the thing is, I'm going to school so I don't really have 300 bucks to spend on an alt right now. So any cheaper options are welcome. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until I can do it right :(
