Default heater fan broke?

I have a '90 LE & I have a problem with the heater fan not blowing. If I turn on the heater, A/C, or defrost they work (at high speeds), but the fan doesn't seem to be running at all. I'm about to take out the dash to check the switch. It is gotten cold now & my skinny little girlfriend can't do without the heat. I would like to know if it'* the switch or not before I start disassembling this thing. Of course, I could always install the FM booster onto the sterio while I'm in there.

Check the voltage at the fan while you select different fan speeds and tell us what you get.

O.K. I've never tore into this car. Do I need to remove the dash to get to it? And should I check the voltage at the speed select switch or at the fan itself? The switch doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.

The fan connector should be in the engine compartment. Can you find the blower fan there? That is where I would check the voltage.

Is the fan located in the center of the firewall? W/the purple & black wires?

I think you've got it. Disconnect the wires and test the power there.

When mine quit blowing I just hit it with the butt of a screw driver(not to hard) & got it working again.

Get this! I just got home from work, reach for the key & the fan comes on high. Tried turning it off at the switch, still on high! Turned it on & off a couple of times, changed the settings (def, heat, A/C, off), still on high!! Turned the car off, STILL on high!!! Popped thte hood & hit the fan w/my Mag-Lite, STILL ON HIGH!!!! Gave up, unplugged it. NOW it'* off! Still turns on when I plug it back in, tho'. For now. :?:
