One thing I miss from former GM'* that my current 2004 Bonneville lacks...steering wheel radio controls...

I've researched through parts catalogs at work...that a new steering wheel and a SIR coil, put then it goes "dark" for me there...

I've tried to search through the forum here...I didn't see such..

Has anyone ever tried such???

If got those on my Buick. I have to press the button pretty hard to get the volume to go up or down. And when I do, the volume goes up too high or comes down too low. I end up having to adjust the volume using the dial anyway if I want it get just right. I don't think you're missing anything.

I'm not sure. I looked in my service manual for quite a while and couldn't find a definate answer one way or another. I don't think that the wiring would be there, only because the wiring goes up the column then splits off to the two sides of the wheel. Furthermore, there is a + and - that goes to the switch for illumination, and another + for power. You could pop off the knee boulster and look at the wiring under the steering column and see if you have a blue wire in PIN D8. That is the wire for the steering wheel controls signal. Sorry I couldn't help more!

I've had 5 previous GM'* with it...I got used to it!!!!

Besides I'd like a leather steering wheel too!

here'* the end-view for the connectors under the steering column. Hopefully this will help you to pin-point the wiring! I'll try to find some for the steering column/wheel specifically though.

EDIT: The wiring SHOULD be there because if you look at pins D6, and D7, it shows that the wiring is there ONLY if the car is equipped with package JL4 in the RPO listing. It doesn't have any such markings next to the steering wheel controls however. You atleast know that the wiring is from the radio to the steering column.. Now we just need to figure out if it makes it all the way to the wheel or not.

So I guess the million dollar question is what all is needed.

Looking at past posts possibly the following:

Steering wheel w/ controls.
SIR coil (what is this and where is it located?)
Wiring harness from connector to top of column
Reprogram of Dash Intergration Module

Anyone care to see if this is correct?

Well, when it warms up, an investigation of whether my car is equipped with a the sir plug in at the base of the column...the SIR coil has the radio control harness as part of it...one of the techs @ work stated they pop in for me for a soda!

I can get a new wheel & SIR coil cheap enough, so in the next week or 2 when it is above Zero degrees...
