i have a melted 9006 headlight socket... it took the bulb with it... i have the replacement, and am ready to put it on...

i need to make sure its not gonna happen again, since the plug was the only part melted, thats meants the short was there, and not anywhere else on the wiring, correct?

Melted headlight socket is indicative of a short ckt which means high current flow which translates to high heat. I'd say you nailed the problem area.
