Have you checked the license plate lights?

What THEY said.

I cursed my taillamp sensor for weeks until I found out a license plate light was out. I periodically try to buy my taillamp sensor a hot fudge sundae to make up for my verbal abuse, but it still will have none of that (they're rather sensitive, apparently). So I wind up eating it.

If the sensor is telling you something other than tail lamp... pull and check all bulbs in the area it'* mentioning. Corrosion etc could trigger it.

Good point, Bill! Even if a lamp base looks clean give it a scrub on some sandpaper or if no sandpaper is available, just scrub it on the cement floor. I've even had brand new bulbs that needed that to make them work right.

To get around the monitor you would need to cut the wires to it and put resistors in the value it expects inline to fool it.
