Default 9-way seat elec functions won't switch to passenger

I need help figuring out what went wrong here.

I was in the process of removing the headliner, seats and carpet in my '92 SSEi to repair and clean them, when I ran into this problem. I got the driver'* seat out OK, but when I went to remove the passenger seat, I could not move it forward to get at the rear bolts. After a while, I figured out that there is a controller (for both seats?) on the driver'* seat, so I put it back in the car and re-made all the connections - even bolted one front bolt down in case it needed a chassis ground. But the switch will not function to switch power to the passenger seat for any of the electric motors that control the first five functions. The air functions (3 lumbar and side bolsters) will switch either side properly, but when you switch to right seat and hit forward/back, raise/lower, recline, raise front, or raise rear, the LEFT seat moves. This has effectively prevented me from removing the right seat, not to mention adding another item to my list of things to fix.

Unless I am missing it somewhere, my '92 factory service manual does not have information on these 9-way seats, just the less complicated AG1 option.

Can anyone help :?:

Thanks,

Try looking up "sport seats."

There is a left/right select relay inside the seat control module.

Thanks, Fuddy. It'* right there in the index as the second listing for front seats (8A-14 Took me to Sport seats, AL7. Don't know how I missed it.

If it turns out I have a bad relay, can I just pry open the module and change the relay, or do I have to change out the module?

I've never explored inside the module before - also double check to see that you have the correct signal coming to the relay from the switch.

I wiggled wires on the 10-pin blue connector and sort of twisted and jiggled the wires into the console switch and got the right seat to move enough to get it out of the car.

After I finish repairing the leather bolsters, and the carpet dries out, I will re-install the seats and begin the troubleshooting procedure. I will be sure to check the signal from the relay to the switch, but it will probably be a few days away. I'll post the results.

Thanks, Fuddy, for the help.

I had the same problem until I did some research. The control computer for both seats is mounted under the drivers seat. Hook up the drivers seat and it should start working. This drove me nuts for a couple of days until I found this out. Look under the drivers seat and you will see the computer that controls the seat.

DOHH!!!! Reread your post and saw you already figured it out.
