Default Problems with something battery related

I have a 1992 sse and the gauge on my dash is reading low battery low battery voltage
it is at the mark below the middle which is 14 and my check engine light keeps coming on. Last night my battery died and we took it to autozone too see if it was my alternator and they said the battery had no juice. So i got a new battery installed it and my car started fine, but im still getting the same reading on my battery gauge and the check engine light. Is my alternator the problem??

You can have your alternator tested but it sure sounds like it is not charging your battery.

Batteries and alternators like to fail in pairs. One bad one stresses the other until they are both kaput, frequently. Have them test again. I don't have a voltmeter, what voltage is the mark below 14?

I dont know the number. The bottom mark is 8 and 14 is in the middle of 8 and 18. Id say that the mark is like 12. It doesnt stay at 12 though, It drops below that but not into the red.

You have a check engine light? Use the procedure in Techinfo to extract codes. Come back and tell us what they are.

I think I was mistaken about the service engine soon light. It only came on when I would turn the key but not turn the car on. I did the code thing anyway and got no errors. I still do have a check gauges light. Givin the fact that I have a brand new battery, can I assume that the problem is my alternator?

It is a likely culprit, but remember, there are other more remote possibilities like wiring problems/corrosion.

or the gague in the IP could be bad. I know My car runs at 14+ (verfied by fluke meter) all the time but the gague only reads about 12 all the time
