any way to delay headlight turn on?
ok heres the problem, when you turn the key past on to the start posistion it turns the headlights on, with the HID kit i have it is not good for the voltage to be low due to cranking while they were on
so my question is can i get something that adds like a 5 second delay from when the headlights get power til the HIDs turn on, i have the relay harness already, so would some kind of time delay relay work?
any other ideas?

Have you tried like Radio shack? I seem to recall a capacitor or something along those lines that can create a delay. Not really my field but I seem to remember making something along those lines with a friend many years ago to do a reset on a computer and it needed a delay.

i found this on some site, it has a cap. in it, but you think just like one wired in series of the positive headlight wire to the coil would make a delay?
here is what i might do, if i can figure it out lol

The capacitor in that diagram just protects from a surge, it is the relay coil in it that does the job. You HID kit already should have the capacitance taken care of, you just need a delay relay, such as this one.

You can do a google search for 12 volt delay relay to price shop.

YW, I need a similar fix for my V-Star. It only has a 5amp draw so I think I can get away with generic toggle switch. Why manufacturers didnt put delay relays in the works when they decided to go with DRL was stupid. If I turn the bike off after a short ride to the bar or store, the bike has a hard time restarting. Some Chryslers, Volvo'*, and Saab'* have them but I have no idea of their schematics and doubt the contacts will take the amp load of HID.

i've looked around for that relay you suggested venom and no local electronics store had it, not even one of the manufactuar'* dealers, but i tried making that little circuit thing and i'm not sure if i did something wrong, but it didn't work
so now i will checking dealers in other areas

Ya, looking through that Dealer list, it looks more like a customer/user list. I'd call or email the manufacturer directly. All the relays I find in searches are $50-100
Found this for the do-it-yourselfer, it uses a Chrysler relay(part # included) and has a simple wiring schematic

This setup would work if you tie in the low amp positive "energize" wire of the HID kit. Hey!, I found a solution for my V-Star while looking for a fix for you
