Big problem with my 00 ssei
alright im putting my flame suit on for this one maybe.
I saw a mod on here that enables one to keep their fogs of when the high beams are on. It involved attaching a ground wire to the 86 pin on the fog lamp relay. I obviously didnt read into it enough because i wrapped the wire around the pin and put the relay back in, attached the ground and turned the key...thats why all hell broke loose.
The headlights went out and i lost all power to the intstrument panel. here is a list of everything that doesn't work, that ive found so far:
instrument panel
acc. power
radio (although the clock still comes on when i push the tune button in)
compressor
fans
starter
power door locks
trunk release
and im sure there are somethings im forgetting
power seats work and i tried the horn and it worked, but once i pushed it it didnt stop, i had to unhook the battery quick to make it stop, so i pulled the fuse for the horn so i could hook it back up and keep digging for the problem.
my first thought was i fried all the relays, as it seems that everything associated with a relay doesnt work, but im really not sure. I know what i tried was probably extremely stupid, so please dont tell me that, i just need to know what you guys think is wrong, im going back out to try to figure it out, and ill check back in a bit.
UPDATE:
cig lighter works, lights in the buttons on the door are always on, and i unhooked the power coming into the fuse box under the hood, and when i hooked it back up the DRL came on and stayed on, until i took the relay out for them. something is messed up big time, please help, my car is dead until i fix it!

First step is to check all of the fuses, both underhood, and under the seat. See which if any are blown. You may have also taken out some fusible links. The relays often have a diagram printed on them showing how they work. Go across the terminals that show a picture of a coil with 12 volts. You should hear a click. The diagram should also show the position of the relay in the "off" state (which if any terminals are connected) and the "on" state (which terminals are now connected). Measure across those with a meter that measures resistance.
We've all done something that after doing it makes us think "now, that was really stupid!" Welcome to the group.

alright ive checked most of the fuses, but i will go through each and every one and check them, its woth the time i think.
second what do you mean by fusible links??
and i will have to get a meter to measure resistance, i dont have one, but its something that will come in handy more times than now.
thanks for the help!

I'm going to guess here that you may have blown only one fuse. However, if that circuit shares a common ground with others which should all be on simultaneously, the lack of voltage on that circuit may allow a backflow from others sharing the same ground point, especially if the ground connection is dirty, overloaded or broken.
At this point, you need to start by tallying the condition of every fuse in the car. As others have already said, you have several locations for fuses and relays. Assuming you have now removed that wrongheaded jumper wire, you can replace any blown fuses as soon as you find them. Blown fusible links will be trickier to repair, but let'* not worry about those until you find one or more bad ones.
As for the relays, I really doubt you have done them any harm, as their only function is to close their contacts whenever their coil is energized, and energizing the coil requires applying voltage. In effect, completing that circuit _is_ a short circuit, except that the coil itself is providing the resistance, instead of a light bulb. If the relay'* coil went bad somehow, such as grounding a winding wire on the casing or something, it might blow a fuse, but I really doubt that a short circuit downstream of the relay, say, would toast it. The low-amperage side of the relay (the circuit that drives it to close its contacts) may be protected by a fuse; the high-amperage side, the circuit that'* being controlled by the relay, may be protected by a circuit breaker.
So what this all comes back to is that you may have blown one or more fuses, but before you go looking for anything worse, check those and replace as needed.

good news, i found a blow fuse under the seat, the ignition switch fuse, replaced it and everything works just fine now.
bad news is i have new problem, that completely unrelated, went to close the passenger side rear door when i was done fixing everything, and i heard a funny noise..noticed when i was sitting in the driver seat that the passenger side rear window was open a bit, i didnt remember bumping the switch window wont stay up...from what ive read on here its my regulator, which is a common failure.
i guess im guessing this one is going to cost me more than a replacement fuse...

congrats on the fix, ain't it nice when it'* an easy fix??
yes, your regulator just took a ****. you can either try to fix it for cheap, http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=97
or you can just buy a new one on ebay for about $100

yea i was so relieved when i found the fuse blown.
thanks for the link, i think ill try that tomorrow, except the pictures dont show up on my computer, a couple do, but the others dont. are there more or is it just the two?
