Engine Electrc Fan Operation on 94SE
Today I was sitting at a stop light and I observed my engine temp gauge was reading about 1/8* past 220 which it has never done. I had just driven about 30 miles at highway speed. The trip home the gauge stayed where it usually does about 1/8" below 200F.
When I got home, I started the engine and let it idle. Once again the temp rose to 1/8" above 220. I observed the two electric cooling fans behind the radiator - one sammer than the other. They never kicked on EXCEPT when I turend on the A/C. They ran while it was on and then stopped when I turned the A/C off.
I guess I was expecting the fans to turn on at idle to keep air going over the radiator but they never turned on unless A/C was on.
Does this indicate a problem and if so what? I did'nt figure a fuse since they do operate when the A/C is on.
I assumed there was a thermostatic activation for these fans based on coolant temp.
Thanks for any advice. Car has 120,000 miles and VIN is 1G2HX52L4R#######.
